Tianjin has a history of more than 600 years. It got its name from Yan Zhu Di in 1403. It’s a landing place through which Zhu Di went to Beijing to capture the emperor’s position. In Chinese, Tianjin means a ferry for emperor. In 1404, people began to found this city and established a fort. After that 2 more fors had been set either. In 1652, three forts were unified together. Thus Tianjin is sometimes called “Tianjin wei (fort)”. In Minguo Period, many foreigners arrived here and had built numbers of western-style villas.
