Today I’m going to introduce my hometown-Tianjin (Tientsin) to you. Tianjin, one of the four municipalities in China, plays a significant role in Bohai Rim economic development. It is also the biggest open coastal city in North China together with the birthplace of Chinese morden industry. Tianjin is the lowest city in China with Jiushanding Peak as its highest point which is also an ideal place for people to get back to nature.

Jiushanding Peak

Tianjin has a history of more than 600 years. It got its name from Yan Zhu Di in 1403. It’s a landing place through which Zhu Di went to Beijing to capture the emperor’s position. In Chinese, Tianjin means a ferry for emperor. In 1404, people began to found this city and established a fort. After that 2 more fors had been set either. In 1652, three forts were unified together. Thus Tianjin is sometimes called “Tianjin wei (fort)”. In Minguo Period, many foreigners arrived here and had built numbers of western-style villas. Consequently, Tianjin has become a city that possesses both traditional features and western styles.

Although Tianjin haven’t achieved economic transition and progress immediately after the opening-up, its economy is now growing at a rapid clip now with the booming of Binhai new area. Furthermore, in 2013, Tianjin will hold 6th East Asian Games.

When you come to Tianjin, there are many places you can have a tour, such as: Dule Temple, Dagu Fort, Ancient Culture Street, ChanYuan mantra, Food Street and so on. It’s said that Thean Hou Temple located on the Ancient Culture Street is one of the three biggest Matsu temples in the world. In Food Street, all the specialties can be found there like Goubuli baozi, ErDuoYan Fried cake, 18 street serratula, Maobuwen jiaozi, Nuts zhang, Guoba dish and so on and so forth. As a a classical cultural city, there are also many famous artists, performers and writers.
