It was a hot summer in Nanjing in 2010, I have finished my National Entrance Examination so called 'GaoKao' . I must say that I was not doing well during that examination which is referred as the 'turning point of life' by many elders. But I prefer to say that it is a choose time -- you have to make a choice at that time which may influence the left of your life. And also it is not you who makes the choice. My score is just above the first batch of undergraduate fraction line and there are not so many good choices for me with such a embarrassing score .
However, I must say, I was very fortunate at that time and I was admitted by a famous science and engineering school in Beijing, the normal admission line of which is much higher during the past years. I was exhilarated of the news. Beijing, the capital of China, with so many places and exhibitions to visit, was going to be the place that I would spent at least four years in. I had never been to the places northern than Shandong province. I thought there would be a lot of fun. Truly, there is. Before the GaoKao, I thought I would be admitted by a university in Nanjing, my hometown, to spend my holidays at home and stay in the schools at weekdays. After the reveal of the scores, however, it is improbable to stay in Nanjing where the first batch of undergraduate admission lines are rather stable. So I turn to universities in Beijing to try my luck. Even today, I am still thinking what if I go to the university in Nanjing. It could be so much different. But what I am sure is that life in Beijing is much more free and more colorful for me.
I arrived in Beijing one day advanced by the bullet train which took me 8 hours with my parents. It is a kind of long journey for me but full of expectations and delight. It was the night time when I stepped on the land of Beijing. We took a taxi to the hotel booked. When on the taxi, I saw the numerous logos of great company locking on the grand buildings, numerous names of famous schools and institutions standing by and numerous cars driving fast on the large viaducts. That is what the world-class modern city means! And just at that moment, I knew why so many young people squeezing into the already crowded city. The lights , the buildings, the songs, the crowd... and the fantasy.
I got a cozy bath at the hotel and started to play the WAR 3 online on my laptop. I thought to myself, what will the next day be?
