Talk about private cars.

685 views. 2011-8-21 08:56

Yesterday,Shanghai Auto license auction reach to a new high in August. The average license price reach to 52,228CNY. Nowdays, Traffic congestion problem is getting more and more worse. Many living community have no place to park for Automobile? Random parking have beome a very serious phenomenon in many living communtiy.

We have to rethink the country's rapid development of automobile industry is reasonable?

After financial crisis, With the fantastic spur both in industry and in economy in China, the number of people who own private cars is on the rise. Some people have bought cars of their own, and  more others are planning to buy cars. But there have been two quite different views on this phenomenon. Some people support this policy continue develop, and some people stronlgy object to continue rapidly develop automobie.

In my opinion, although automobiles have been playing a vital part in the daily activities of our society, they also bring us numerous troubles ,such as more serious environmental pollution, more traffic accidents and more energy consumption. Traffic accidents kill thousands and thousands of people each year. Jams waste our precious time. Therefore I am against developing private cars.

Frankly speaking, I think Our country should formulate some policies to appropriate restrictions on rapid development of automobile industry!

According to what you said, seems Shanghai is also using a similar method to control ownership of private cars. Here in Hong Kong you have to pay a registration tax which is 100% the cost of your car and that means if your car cost 50,000 then the total cost would be 100,000. This tax is revised every year to make sure that people buys only when it is necessary. This way, the number of cars  licenced are the number the roads can take. Perhaps, this method works better in Hong Kong than in Shanghai because here we have a very big and efficient public transport system reaching all the corners of the city. These transport includes the modern underground railway, trains, buses, private buses, employee buses etc.

Cars does produce a lot of problems like social competition to own cars mainly to show a social status as a car owner, increasing pollution causing respiratory diseases, crippling accidents, road congestions and reducing the chance for physcial exercise resulting in obese and bone problems. Cars should not be allowed to increase without effective control otherwise we will have to bear the long term consequeces.

as far as i know. in shanghai the registration tax is 50,000 RMB. what kevin said about license auction, i guess, is for those numbers that are considered to be lucky or easy to remember.
in china owning a car is regarded by some a sign of your social status, however, it does provide us with some convenience, esp, on rainy or cold days. and it is a tendence as our society develops. of course, we need to have effective control as you said; the towns and cities are already crowded indeed.

Your case is different because yours is family owndership of a car which can be justified. The problem is with those individuals or families where everyone owns a car separately. A car can be used for 10 or 20 years and does provide a family with convenience especially when we start to age and commuting can be hectic.
