Upon one of my friends' recommendation who works as the human resourse supervisor in a large-scaled company in SZ, yerterday afternoon I attented an interview with the overseas sales manager. The company specializes in developing, manufacturing and selling two-way radio and other wireless communication products, which has almost 10 years' history and ranks the second in China in this business line. Her recommended position was overseas sales with a comparatively higher basic salary. Getting the superficial idea and consideration of this good platform and salary, I decided to take time to have a try.
Our appointment was arranged at 2pm yesterday afternoon. Without having lunch, I resolved to get to the appointed place firsly because I had to spend time finding the right location. Actually I checked the map on the internet before I left, finally I still circled some rounds to confirm it. After confirmating the building, when it was close to 12:30, then I started to find a resterant to eat. After that, I took a rest on the car for a while waiting for the start of interview. Actually I quit my afternoon's work to check this job position, luckily no such urgent work to deal with.
When I stepped into the company, the friend treated me and asked me to wait at the meeting hall. Firstly I filled in the Job Entry Table and sat here to meet the manager. While the manager
was holding the meeting so that I couldn't wrap up the interview immediately and go back to office. Inadvertedly........I have waited for two hours. During the period, my friend occationally came in and introduced the manager and position to me. She said the manager was an energetic and powerful person, so I had to face him confidantly. Sounds interesting. Honestly, I really took this opportunity as a try, nothing too nerious and nervous.
Suddenly, my friend came in and told me the news that the manager had finished the meeting and directed me to take a sit at his office first because he had another short meeting. OMG. I realized how difficult to meet an important person, hehe. After waiting for about 20 mins, I saw a decent gentleman stepped in. He treated me a cup of water and then began our converstation. He followed to ask me some questions from my resume and other certificates in a non-tradtional way of self-introduction and work processes. He started from my exhibition experience abroad. Which exhibition did I attend? Which country and city? Which booth No. was our company located at the exhibition? Whether booked the tour plan or not? Where did i live in such country? Which transportation did I take from our hotel to the exhibition hall? If metro, which line? What did I had for lunch or dinner? How much? Oh. .. Then he showed me a company profile PPT and asked me to give an English presentation in 5 mins. Very instantaniously. After that, he talked in detail about the company and the department, especially the market allocation. There seemed more specifical toward positions and markets. Here there were marketing sales, fed sales, business sales and technical sales, while in other companies just two kinds such as overseas sales and merchadiser. We chatted well. He expressed the vacant position and I also confessed my will. However, as the market allocated was not to my favorite, I didn't accept it. Anyway, it was a nice experience althought the result was not satisfying. I learnt why in current sociery we should cultivate ourselves in a comprehensive way rather than limited to just only one aspect and area.
As to overseas sales, it's really a very challenging position and practices people's integrated capabilities. For my understanding, form long term, it's not a satisfctory positon for women becasue of constant business trips and higher burden. That's the reason I am thinking of changing it. That's also another reason why I didn't accept the positon above.
Chance is not only one, still on the way. I will prepare well and head towards my ideal position.
