Flexible Interview

1163 views. 2011-12-15 17:35

Upon one of my friends' recommendation who works as the human resourse supervisor in a large-scaled company in SZ, yerterday afternoon I attented an interview with the overseas sales manager. The company specializes in developing, manufacturing and selling two-way radio and other wireless communication products, which has almost 10 years' history and ranks the second in China in this business line. Her recommended position was overseas sales with a comparatively higher basic salary. Getting the superficial idea and consideration of this good platform and salary, I decided to take time to have a try.

Our appointment was arranged at 2pm yesterday afternoon. Without having lunch, I resolved to get to the appointed place firsly because I had to spend time finding the right location. Actually I checked the map on the internet before I left, finally I still circled some rounds to confirm it. After confirmating the building, when it was close to 12:30, then I started to find a resterant to eat. After that, I took a rest on the car for a while waiting for the start of interview. Actually I quit my afternoon's work to check this job position, luckily no such urgent work to deal with.

When I stepped into the company, the friend treated me and asked me to wait at the meeting hall. Firstly I filled in the Job Entry Table and sat here to meet the manager. While the manager
was holding the meeting so that I couldn't wrap up the interview immediately and go back to office. Inadvertedly........I have waited for two hours. During the period, my friend occationally came in and introduced the manager and position to me. She said the manager was an energetic and powerful person, so I had to face him confidantly. Sounds interesting. Honestly, I really took this opportunity as a try, nothing too nerious and nervous.

Suddenly, my friend came in and told me the news that the manager had finished the meeting and directed me to take a sit at his office first because he had another short meeting. OMG. I realized how difficult to meet an important person, hehe. After waiting for about 20 mins, I saw a decent gentleman stepped in. He treated me a cup of water and then began our converstation. He  followed to ask me some questions from my resume and other certificates in a non-tradtional way of self-introduction and work processes. He started from my exhibition experience abroad. Which exhibition did I attend? Which country and city? Which booth No. was our company located at the exhibition? Whether  booked the tour plan or not? Where did i live in such country? Which transportation did I take from our hotel to the exhibition hall? If metro, which line? What did I had for lunch or dinner? How much? Oh. .. Then he showed me a company profile PPT and asked me to give an English presentation in 5 mins. Very instantaniously. After that, he talked in detail about the company and the department, especially the market allocation. There seemed more specifical toward positions and markets. Here there were marketing sales, fed sales, business sales and technical sales, while in other companies just two kinds such as overseas sales and merchadiser. We chatted well. He expressed the vacant position and I also confessed my will. However, as the market allocated was not to my favorite, I didn't accept it. Anyway, it was a nice experience althought the result was not satisfying. I learnt why in current sociery we should cultivate ourselves in a comprehensive way rather than limited to just only one aspect and area.

As to overseas sales, it's really a very challenging position and practices people's integrated capabilities. For my understanding, form long term, it's not a satisfctory positon for women becasue of constant business trips and higher burden. That's the reason I am thinking of changing it. That's also another reason why I didn't accept the positon above.

Chance is not only one, still on the way. I will prepare well and head towards my ideal position.

I agree with you opinion, very one should cultivate ouselves by various skill, experience and thingking. your seat decides to your brain ,it is a truth.

dear Jessico, i'm a hr too, merely in a same company, no many job-hopping in my career path. to be frank, seeking a ideal work on current society ,especially to a girl surely not so easy thing. as your mentioning the overseas sales surely not so suitable to a girl as a tranditional viewsight, but anything is absolute in the world. in many men's field, some girls do well. in some girl's field ,many men do well too. the vital point is what an attitude and what a effort we put into the job and what a opportunity we have. i think you should try and give yourself a chance, if no any other better one. certainly ,i believe you will gain more progress whether in your work or in your life due to your advantage in thinking things. good luck.

yes society needs people who have comprehensive knowledge and ability. It is not easy to find a good job nowadays. However, your dreams will come true one day if you prepare for them well.

very great experiences, too bad it didn't work it out. but considering the fact that you just treated it as a try, i guess it's not bad on the whole---at least you know you could do it. I understand why you made such a decision. For most men, job hunting is boiling down to one word: up, up, up. But for a woman, it is more complicated. We have to strike a balance between work and family. It's not as easily as it appears.

Actually, the interview I experienced was not my ideal position although it was a good flatform. I am engaged in my current job with the same position as the one I tried. I just added my experience by my friend's recommendation. But I am thinking of changing to my intentional job position. Get higher and higher gradually with my constant trying.

Hi, friend. Thanks for your focus on my status. Ya, I am thinking of changing to a new environment because hard to find further development space at my current company. Sometimes environment changes a person. For the interview yesterday, actually it was not that I sent the interview, but a nice experience to enrich myself. I learnt a lesson, you know. That's it. I never mind the result met or not. Just the intervier and the interviewee didn't reach a common sense. I showed myself, but it didn't mean I could accpet everthing.

Dear Snow. I fully understand. As there was no vacant position I was satisfied, that's why no agreement was reached finally. It was double-sided decision. Today, the manager told the human resource staff that they still needed me if there would be the required postion. I just took that experience as a learning chance, never regarded the result so seriously. I undetstand it was hard to adjust a position in a large company. They have the basic rule. Anyway I am now still engaged in my current job. Once finding the satisfying one, I will accept it. Not just eager for a position

True Phoebe. For wowen, I have to consider more family stuff than men. Career is important, but we need to extablish the family and give birth to baby. The balance really attaches the importance.

Real perfect thing just exist on the dream, not exist on the real world, but everything has it lightspot. I think that the suitable is perfect. Just move on.

Good experience. guest your friend must be upset you both would not work together. Insisting on oneself's goal or objective is not that easy. Knowing what you truely seek for is not that easy, either, but you did.

We also should interview the interviewer during the interview.
Judging by your experience, that manager was not really punctual. At first, he need to introduce company, department and position responsibility before asking so many questions. That is respect! So I don't think he is the right boss to cooperate with.
