start from the graduation thesis

I am a senior student ,who is about to leave the university campus in less than two month, and i have been busy with my graduation thesis. Howerver, i am still completely disoriented : I haven't met my mentor until now, and was only told by a so-called group leader that i must hand in my thesis befor May 15th.
Let me see when I began to think about the thesis. At the end of last term,that is the last term but one of my university, i heard from some of my friend in other universities that they have finished choosing thesis mentors, and they were assigned with a lot of tasks concerting to the thesis. Hearing their complaints, i was complacent that we were only asked to hand in our thesis topic, and then no responses were given. Then it came to the begining of this term, March 1st, i was looking forward to the high-efficient and fast arrangement about the thesis writing, but the first notice hadn't arrived until the end of the March. The notice was like this: the mentor of our group is too busy to meet with us ,so you can write the manuscipt by yourself and the mentor may spare his time to have an face-to-face communication with us.

- "start with" or "begin with" are both OK. But I think it'll be better for you to write down the entire sentence since the expressions of English are various in different situations. They are flexible~
