三章

不尚賢,使民不爭;不貴難得之貨,使民不為盜;不見可欲,使民心不亂。

Glorify the superior, hatch jealousy and competition.
Value possessions, provoke stealing.
Stimulate desire, enflame the passions.

是以聖人之治,虛其心,實其腹,弱其志,強其骨。

Therefore, the Tao–Master would rule
by emptying minds and filling bellies,
by weakening desire and strengthening bodies.

常使民無知無欲。使夫智者不敢為也。為無為,則無不治。
He would lead the people away from knowing and wanting
and would try to prevent those with knowledge
from interfering.
Practice non–ado, and everything will fall into place.

Too much knowledge is the beginning of our disaster, we should understand how to satisfy our basic need first, like how to eat healthily, how to exercise, when to sleep and when to wake up. This basic knowledge is hidden in our instinct, like other animals, we know it very well, however, when there comes too much knowledge, we get confused. Clear your mind, use your instinct, observe other animals and learn from children, you will understand how to live. After you understand how to live, you are good to enter other realm of your life.
