Today I will give you a special way of learning english.
Learning english is just like learning other skills, you need to do it and do it very often. Think about the native speaker, how do they learn english. They listen a lot, they think a lot, they speak a lot, they read a lot and they write a lot. That's it. Very simple, right? However it's not when you are not in a english country. You just don't have that many chances to do it. So we begin to create the enviroment. We watch english movies, read english books, listen to english radio, but we have no need to speak it or write it in our life after all the learning. So we begin to forget what we learn. To avoid that some people try to write a english diary or practise speaking with others. Most of them get frustrated at the beginning, some make great progress with their hardwork, however they go back when they stop doing it for a while. Only those who have the opportunity to use english in their job or with some english speaking friends may maintain their level. Why? Because english learning is not something you may accomplish but more a lifetime journey. Remember the native speakers are still learning english after they are able to use it without any trouble, They are still learning new words or new way of using the old words they have learnt before.
So what should we do when we are living in China? My answer: Translate any chinese into english. When you are watching TV, you translate the dialogue in your mind. when you see the road sign you translate it. even when you are talking with someone, you can translate their words. Now you have plenty of time to use your english, and you will certainly improve your english very fast. Just give it a try, and you will see.

By making mistakes you will learn fast next time you come across the right expression, and you will be more likely to remember the right expression.

So you just need to read more english material that you will improve your translation next time. And it's impossible to make big improvement if you can't use english regularly.

- Translation is an once popular way of learning English as a foreign language. As a learner needs no parters or facilities, he or she can do it anytime and anywhere. However, there is a want of monitoring mechanism, also a common probelm with all other individual training methods. As rich rightly pointed out, you never know if your translation is correct or not. You don't say your translation out loud so people around can't find mistakes and help correct them. More often than not, you can't notice your own mistakes since you don't write them down. We have to admit that an unrealized error is still an error no matter how many times it is repeated. Learners visiting this website might have similar troubles: on the one hand, most of us are learners liable to make mistakes; on the other, people are unwilling to help rectify them. The consequence is that we repeat the same mistake without knowing it. Fortunately, I express my ideas in words, which make it possible to find mistakes and put them right afterwards. Therefore, I think that your method will sure help learners improve their English, but I doubt it works with every one. Even if it does, the question remain unanwsered how far it helps a learner.

No, they will change.I DO think this is a good way, particularly for noobs and beginners. But we're not children. The things that are true to children doesn't always stay true to us. For example, from the cradle to junior high takes about 13 years for most children. In these 13 years or so, they gained an average of more than 1 meter in height. I remember I did it effortlessly in the first 13 years of my life, but now, I can't even grow half an inch, even if you give me 13 thousand years to do it.

Just lower your standard at the beginning, let's say translate one word in every sentence.

And in that case, you will also be able to identify your mistake when you are translating, for you will just feel it wrong. So it's quite the same, what you need is to learn more and make it right next time. And the method I provided here gives you plenty of times to make mistakes which also means many chances of correcting them.

- On the contrary, I did correct a few mistakes in the paragraph I wrote above. Grammar or spelling mistakes are very easy to spot. When it comes to those usage ones, I can only count on my language sense. Where my language sense is not reliable, I have to turn to my Oxford or Longman for help . And I believe that a learner can always improve or polish his or her writings as long as he or she wants to.
