Hot 4801 views. 2014-10-6 12:40 | learning, primary, foreign, better, school

Upon the ending of CET-6, college students crowded out, with lots of complains and disappearances about their performances. That was a common sence around our country, whether in a middle- or top- ranked university. The foreign language has become a trony barrier people struggle to jump over. No strange, but the reality of poor English teaching system that manufactorying grade-only talents. We must blame this to the root stage later development based on. Therefore the importance of primary school learning in English can never be overestimated.

Let along with the teaching system, we know commonly that early stage education set a path to potential discovery. The scientific findings support this idea a lot, especially in language learning. For any child from 4 ~7, The neural system has to development by a way of exploding expanding, from which process numerous neural cell connections would be rapidly estabilished, with a speed much faster than adult people , which causes memory. When learning,  they reach mastery much quicker than you. Some brain mechanical studies revealed some difference in the way of brain work between children and adults. They suggest that complex grammar or wordtype study distracts our foreign language learning as a entity. The more efforts you put on your learning, the poorer skills you will own. In contrast, that doesn't bother young children. They can master a foreign language very efficiently by "thinking less". In a word, the foreign language learning should take advantage of the age-timing, and tried hard to guide them to learn in their favorate ways.

Schooling is like the driving, and driving in a accending speed. Supposing a high school students with about eight or more courses. Even if he tried best in English courses, the tasks of the rest course will unavoidably occupies most of his "to do" lists. How could he perform too well without worrying about the time restrictions? Why not adding more English flavors in primary school teaching? In their daily entertainment, their less restricted holidays, their after school playing, plenty of time could be spent with the company of a foreign language. Without the English courses in primary schools, fun with English will be lost and the chance to master disappeard.

To some degree, I hope kids could start to learn English earlier. In fact, especially in some remote villages, English teachers are deficient and there are few of English classes. It is optimistic that more and more people know the importance of learning English and other foreign languages.

Have you learnt recent news about English exam reform of college entrance examination? To some extent, it shows that the authorities want to reduce the importance of English.Compared to the other countries and regions, like HongKong,Japan,South Korea and so on,which attach great importance to English, the new policy of the Chinese government is very puzzling.

Children should be exposed to English as young as possible provided that they have competent teachers. If the teacher is qualified, the children can have a solid basis of English at a young age so that they won't feel stressed out when grow up.
However, young children who learn a language in a wrong way may lead to terrible consequences. Their inappropriate learning habits can be hard to correct.
Thus, it depends. It's better for Underdeveloped areas to teach English in, say, middle school while the developed cities can let the kids learning the language in a younger age.

I thought you should be an English teacher because it seems you are so experienced. I am totally agree with you that, for children students, learning should be processed in an appropriate way. The role of teacher cann't be more overestimated in forming their correct habit, especially in an early age's exposure.

Although a English major and a person who has a passion on English, I don't think English shall prevail all over the country, and suitable for all. After all, it is just a kind of language, and should be used in the multinational setting. Overemphasized on English is downgrading the role of native language.
