A free bird leaps on the back　     　　　                     一只自由之鸟跳上风背　　 　

Of the wind and floats downstream 　　　                 展翼向下滑行　　

Till the current ends and dips his wing 　　　　          直到气流的尽头

In the orange suns rays　                                             伴着橙色的光芒将翅膀浸染　　　　　　　　　　      

And dares to claim the sky.                                     向着天空大胆的表明它的态度

But a BIRD that stalks down his narrow cage              但陷入狭窄牢笼的鸟

Can seldom see through his bars of rage　　                却看不透它愤怒的枷锁

His wings are clipped and his feet are tied　　　          它的翅膀被剪去, 双脚被缚

So he opens his throat to sing.　　　　　　　　         它敞开喉咙尽情的歌唱

The caged bird sings with a fearful trill　　　　           带着莫名的恐惧

Of things unknown but longed for still　　　　　         笼中鸟歌唱着未知却渴盼已久的事情

And his tune is heard on the distant hill for　　　         在遥远的山的那端,它的曲调会被听到

The caged bird sings of freedom.                               因这歌声以自由之名缭绕

The free bird thinks of another breeze　                    另一处的轻风吹拂在自由之鸟的记忆里

And the trade winds soft through　　                       微风在哀鸣作响的丛林中川流不息                 　　　　　

The sighing trees　　　　　　　　　　　　　　

And the fat worms waiting on a dawn-bright　　       肥胖的蚯蚓守侯在清晨明媚的草坪上
