This kind of topic occupied my mind from time to time. Until yesterday’s incident that I would share my idea to you all.
Yesterday, I felt very tired and exhausted due to extra work. About ten o’clock at night, I got on the bus. Luckily, I got a seat beside the door. There were many passengers in the bus, I guess they may all like me, backing home. At then, an elder woman got on the bus, on one would like giving their seats to her, so I offered my seat to her reluctantly, for I was very tired. But to my surprise, she refused to seat there, for she thought the seat which I took wasn’t in good location of the bus, she even didn’t express her appreciation. I got a little bit angry, but I said nothing. After four stops, a girl in her twenties offer her seat to the elder, she sat there , and said nothing. She took it for granted, surely, she could do that, but, at least, you might well say something ,for others did you favor.
We all agree that we should respect the elder and take care the young. But is it a law that we must give our seat to disabled, pregnant, weak, elder, young? Of course not. At most, it is a problem related to moral standard. When we are in public transportation, we pay for the ticket, so in law, we are all have a right to take a seat, on condition that all seats are not taken. So it is not necessary who must give his or her seat to whom. But for moral standard, we might well offer our seat to those who in need.
I also remembered an event, which happened several years before. There was a young lad, who felt very tired after work, he didn’t give his seat to elder, a woman took a video with her phone, and uploaded it to the net, many key pals search the net, at last they got him and sent his personal information on the net. This poor lad lost his job due to that event, and accept psychotherapy. From the video, I can be sure that the woman took her video while she sat there. Why she didn’t offer her seat to elder? All cursed about the young man, but he himself endured too much. Had anyone ever cared about him? It said that he still have to accept the therapy. He need to give his seat to people in need, it is moral. But if he himself need a seat, he should have a seat instead of regarding him as should be strong in body. In the other hand, those who received others help, he or she at least express him or her appreciation.
Respect is a way to way thing, not just one way. The same as care. We shouldn’t just check others how to do, we should check ourselves first. Before we make any judgment, we had better put ourselves in others shoes, then we may more tolerant, open-minded and be helpful.
