Lend Me A Little Light

345 views. 2011-11-3 17:25

There was a little village near the Yangtze River (×side). Every night, girls of the village gathered together to do needlework and everyone provided candle in turn. There was a poor girl who couldn’t afford candle. Other girls thought she gaining extra advantage and refused to let her join. The poor girl said, “though I can’t afford candle, but every night I come earlier than other people, clean the room and tidy the cushions, so that you can work comfortably when you come, which is convenient to you more or less. Even though I’m not present, you still have to light candle, lend me a little light, what’s the loss to you?” All girls thought she was right and allowed her to stay.

When a talented man asked a celebrity to help him. He needed the recommendation letter of the celebrity, but the celebrity was hesitant, because he didn’t even know the young man. So the young man just told the celebrity the story. The celebrity thought it was only his hand’s turn to write a recommendation letter and would bring him no harm, but which meant too much to the young man, why shouldn’t he help him? It wasn’t harmful to him and the talented young man would be very grateful to him. Always give a hand to other people, especially those things you can do easily.

A nice story, I like it, but what the hell is ‘near the Yangtze River side’? I think the word ‘side’ is redundant.
