When I was in my childhood, I liked Journey to the West best. It was so fantastic, I always read it and forgot about everything around me. Just because of the little village, I had nothing else to read besides textbooks. A buddy in my childhood Xundong, lent me the book---Journey to the West. During every summer holiday, he had to be a cowherd and always felt lonely. So he told stories to me and I always followed him to graze. Now I forgot all of the stories because all of which were simply created by him. The spiritual life was really so poor and it was lucky I could read Journey to the West. After reading the book, I watched the TV drama Journey to the West. The things impressed me most were all kinds of monsters and I was even moved to tears when Monkey King was drove away by Trpitaka and hated Tripitaka to the core instead of White Bone Demon. Now I come to my adulthood and have no intense interest in Journey to the West as before, however, it’s the best fantasy novel I’ve read. It can be summed by one word---fancy.
When I was in high school, I liked to read Water Margin very much. All heroes in it were with an common nature---courage. Every one around me hated Song Jiang’s guts, but I didn’t hate Song Jiang. He didn’t have great Kung Fu or stratagem, however, he could become the head of Liangshan enjoying popular confidence of brothers. He had two greatest strongpoint, one was being loyal to friends, the other was being generous to friends. Lin Chong took shelter in a temple under a heavy snowfall, which was really an artistic conception. Wu Song returned to Mengzhou to take his revenge and killed Inspector Zhang and his family, Instructor Zhang and Jiang Zhong at Mandarin Ducks Tower were fighting with Wu Song, which was a really impressive scene. During the case, Wu Song also killed innocent people, but he didn’t care, because he wasn’t a hero and didn’t want to be called a hero. He was very different from knight-errant in Louis Cha’s novel. It can be summed by one word---courage.
When I worked in Ningbo, I didn’t even have a computer in my rented room. The only thing I had was a small English-Chinese dictionary. So I used my MP3 to read Romance of Three Kingdoms several times. All kinds of hero with courage and wisdom contended with each other without stop. The pleasure of struggling with people was infinite. It can be summed by one word---stratagem.
Until then, I hated to read Dream of the Red Chamber. I tried to read several pages of them and stopped with an disinteresting attitude. I wondered the daily life such as eating, drinking and writing poems could be written as a book, what’s the meaning of this kind of book with daily things?
But now, I think the book of real life is Dream of the Red Chamber. Life in Water Margin is so rude, while life in Red Chamber is so elegant. So elegant people in so elegant place and written by so elegant writer Cao Xueqin. Chair Mao liked this book very much and regarded it as the only cultural legacy of feudal society of China. Yes, this is really a great book. Just as Chairman Mao said, you can’t be a Chinese without reading Red Chamber. Marshal He Long said, I’m not a foreigner even I don’t read Red Chamber. Chairman Mao retorted, but you’re not a Chinese either. It’s really a good book for you when you’re tired of the world you’re living in. You can read it to enrich your soul, which is also the intent of Cao Xueqin. It’s much better than you’re feeling hollow. It can be summed by one word---Elegance
