By a chance, I read The Necklace again. It’s a text of the Chinese class of junior middle school. I remembered my teacher Ms Chung told us Jeanne wouldn’t return the real necklace to Mathilde, because the human relationship in capitalist society was simply relationship between money. Though Ms Chung is the teacher I love most, I don’t agree with her view. Since Jeanne told Mathilde the necklace was false, she would return the true necklace to Mathilde for sure, or else she wouldn’t have let Mathilde know it. Mathilde was lucky to have a good husband, who didn’t blame her at all. Her husband just suffered with her to repay the huge debt. Though she was unlucky to lost the false necklace and spent ten years working hard to repay the loss, she was lucky to have a husband truly loved her, which was really the happiest thing for a woman.
I always like happy ending. Jeanne returned the true necklace to Mathilde. Mathilde used the money to recover her lost youth so that she could go to ball, danced madly, ecstatically, drunk with pleasure with no thought for anything, in the triumph of her beauty, in the pride of her success, in a cloud of happiness made up of this universal homage and admiration, of the desires she had aroused, of the completeness of a victory so dear to her feminine heart.
