In the second year of junior high school, Atman thought of nothing but studying. He broke all his time-wasting hobbies and tried really hard to improve the rank of his school report so that he could go to senior high school successfully, which seems to be the only choice for him for he really didn’t want to be a farmer.

There was a girl Ying in Atman’s class. She was really fat and gluttonous. When she walked, it would remind of people Donald Duck, hence became the laughing object of her class.

At first she sat in front of Wa and thereby he was really annoyed. She liked turning around and grinned at him to show her friendly attitude, but Wa saw her face, just liked a steamed stuffed bun, felt so disgusted. What’s more, she liked farting in an unique way. Before she farted, she would raise either left buttock or right sideways so that it went smoothly, at the same time, Wa sat right behind her and had to bear both disgusting view and smell. Wa warned her not to turn around and Ying promised obediently.

One day, Ying won sixty points in mathematics for the first time and was too happy to forget Wa’s warning. She turned around to share her happiness with Wa. Wa told her to turn around, but Ying teased him, “Wa, it’s my special day, you should celebrate it with me.” After that, she even made faces to try to entertain Wa. Wa thought he couldn’t stand it anymore and pricked her with his pen heavily. Ying’s white blouse became red because of the wound.

Later Wa had to apologize in the front of classroom and bought a carton of milk for her. From that day on, Ying drank milk every morning and still grinned at Wa without remembering the injury. Finally, Wa was so disgusted that he told the class advisor he would quit school if he wasn’t allowed to change his seat.

Atman thought Wa was fulsome and asked to exchange seat with Wa voluntarily. When Ying turned around and Atman would give her a sweet smile. Whenever she had difficulties in learning, Atman would explain it to her in detail until she understood it thoroughly.  

Sometimes, when Atman told her how to learn something, Ying would watch him attentively without hearing anything. Gradually Ying got Progress Reward again and again, yet she didn’t like studying, but she thought Atman was happy about her progress and hence did it happily for his sake.

When Ying brought something from her home, she would give all of them to Atman and none of her roommates had honor to receive the favor, but Atman always felt embarrassed and refused politely. Ying wouldn’t listen to him and didn’t study until Atman received them.

Atman buried his head into studying and didn’t find anything changed until one day Ying broke the thin paper between them. Ying told Atman she liked him and said he was the only good guy in the class to give her warmness.

Atman didn’t think of this kind of thing before, even he did, he would never thought of a girl like Ying. By accident, he thought of Juan, the smartest and prettiest girl in the class. In the following day, Atman asked the class advisor to change his seat. There was no need to say the feeling of Ying, of course, really bad.

From that day on, Atman didn’t see Ying anymore. A classmate told him Ying went to another school and nobody knew the reason. Atman felt a little sorry, but he didn’t have time to think of that and only focused himself on studying and forgot her completely.

Ten years later, Atman took part in a classmate meeting of junior high school. He met Ying, who had already become and slim and elegant lady, while Juan became an obtuse house wife. For the first time, Atman found Ying was really beautiful, black and shiny hair, pinky face and almond-shaped eyes…all so beautiful.

Suddenly, he thought the words of Gump, “Life is a box of chocolates, Forrest. You never know what you're going to get.” Life is a magic box, you never know what people will change.
