Impressive Reading

In A Study in Scarlet, Holmes claims he does not know that the Earth revolves around the Sun, as such information is irrelevant to his work. Directly after having heard that fact from Watson, he says he will immediately try to forget it. He says he believes that the mind has a finite capacity for information storage, and so learning useless things would merely reduce his ability to learn useful things. Dr. Watson subsequently assesses Holmes' abilities thus:

<Me: As for other things, Holmes will be true, but for language, you have to learn a lot of things, or else how could you say you learn a language well? At the same time, if you want to research something, you have to ignore other things first so that you can focus your energy to it.>

IMNONARCISSUS: To some extent , Holmes was right.
We have to be flexible by ourselves and that's difficult to achieve.

I like literature, but I had to learn math as well when I was a senior student. I really hated it, but I didn't have the chance to choose. In this case, I really envy Holmes.
