English Sharing

When I decided to study English a little, I found the website Wikipedia by accident in 2008. It is a website without advertisement. The operating fee is offered singly by sponsors. From the day I found it, I like reading its articles. It’s a little different from books. I can find topics I like to read in Wikipedia. In 2008, being an English rookie, I never read something in English except in English exam, so I had to select something I was interested in to read. Wikipedia satisfied me perfectly then and became my best English partner. I like reading something from Wikipedia every day.

Xidong.net is a good website for English studying material. I downloaded English Classics 1000 from the website and found it contained nearly all famous English writings. 90% of my e-form English studying material comes from the website. I even downloaded Microsoft Encyclopedia and felt all my education again since elementary school, only the language is English instead of Chinese. The website is my good friend.

I read Four Great Classical Novels of Chinese literature in English, which meant I began to finish English novels one by one. I had no courage and interest to finish real English novel then. Because I was familiar with those Four Great Classical Novels, I could guess the meaning of new word easily. There were also Strange Stories from a Chinese Studio and Lu Xun works, of course both of which were in English.

Gradually I read Cambridge History of China, though were wrote by western scholars, still all of which were about China. The first real English novel I read was Gone with the Wind. Then Sister Carrie, Madame Bovary, Holmes series were following. The writing style of Charles Dickens is no doubt the greatest, I think.

There is also a great website http://www.gutenberg.org/, from where you can find almost every famous work.
