Painful Life in Islamabad

Hot 7924 views. 2013-5-22 12:57 | feeling, first, everything, pictures, Because

I came to Islamabad last Friday. Because it was my third time to Pakistan, I didn’t have any special feeling on it. I went to Islamabad by Thai Airways. I just remembered the first time I went to a foreign country and I was excited about everything. Like most people did, I even took a lot of pictures of the wing of airplane. Now I lost my interest completely. Even though Thai Airways air hostesses were pretty, I didn’t think it was a big deal. I only thought of them when I needed water.

The Bangkok airport was no doubt the biggest in Asia. When I waited in the waiting room, I found nearly all people were from Pakistan. No foreigners went to Pakistan except me. I even found there were many empty seats on the plane.

When I arrived at Islamabad Airport, Asif received me with his son, a cute little boy. On the road to his company, he asked me for food. I bought food last time and he still remembered the wonderful favor. The little boy just stared at me curiously probably he never met a foreigner before. By the way, most men around him were with heavy beard and he must be curious why I had only light beard. Actually I thought my beard wasn’t thin in China.

The weather was really hot. In order to save money, I stayed at his company instead of hotel.

The city was always out of electricity. Last night I stayed awake all the time. Because the weather was incredibly hot and there were so many mosquitoes. By the way, there was no water. I stayed awake without taking a shower for the whole night. I really wanted to beat someone to release my hatred.

I lived upstairs. When I went down to the first floor, I found the office servant was living was cool. I didn’t understand why his office had power while my room was out of power. Holy Maria. Finally I felt myself just a dumpling in a steam box. I decided to go outside. Though there were so many mosquitoes, at least the air outside was cooler than the room. Though it was only five o’clock, there was a sunrise. The firstborn Sun in the morning was like a fireball to heat people.

What a place this is!! What a company I’m working for. What a poor person I am!

In China, I'm thinking of how to earn money. In Pakistan, I'm thinking of keeping my health.

You are on business in Pakistan, right? Hasn't the receptionist arranged everything  properly for you? When I first went to Spain, the customer didn't arrange anything for me and my colleagues, we had to deal with on our own. However, in China, at least in our company, when there are  foreigners visiting, no matter they are our customers or we are their potential customers, our company will be responsible for the accomodations. I don't know why? What a difference?

Come on buddy, what happened to you? You are not the confident guy like you were? Where is your struggling spirit? Do you expect rewards on a silver platter without struggles?

Struggles are required in order to survive in life, because in order to stand up, you gotta know what falling down is like.

I remember few years ago, my boss sent me to check out a factory deep in the Guangxi countryside. There was no safe hotels nearby. I was made to sleep in the so called dormitory. There was a very strong cigarette smoke smell in the room, the bed smelled and there were cockroaches. The door could not close properly and there were constantly people walking outside of the door. It was so cold and I could not have a hot bath. I was used to modern convenience and those days seemed like hell. I cursed my boss for putting me into this. I told my boss I would never go to these places again. Fire me if you want. My boss told me in return, ''If you are absent during our struggles, don't expect to be there when our company succeed. To get the good times, you have go through the bad times first''. To have a rose garden, somebody has to do the planting.

Yeah, now I’m changing my ideas. Whenever and wherever it is, having a good rest is the most important thing, which is the basic part of being healthy. Huawei guys worked here too to earn 40,000 RMB a month, poor me, nothing. The hotel costs more than two hundred dollars per day, I understand the heart of my boss for saving money, but I can’t sacrifice my health. Next time, I must live in hotel. Winter and spring are OK. Last visit to Pakistan, spring, I didn’t say anything, but this time, summer, really unbearable, not for the sake of will power, only my health. Living a simple and happy life is my biggest wish. The company is owned by the boss completely, which is difficult for employee to treat it as his home. Saving money to sacrifice the benefit of employee, you can imagine the future of the company, hehe, it’s still the same as it was ten years ago.

Pakistani is really friendly to Chinese. Wherever I go in Pakistan, they treat me really well. When I waited in line last time in Islamabad airport, people in front of me always let me go first. For the first time to Pakistan last year, when I checked network problem in common family, they offered me watermelon and cola they drank only in holiday. The life here was really tough, but the people here is really pure. That's it.
