There is a new house near Big Eyes’ house and it belonged to Full. When I was young, I didn’t distinguish the difference between full and hungry. I always said I was full when I was hungry. Full heard it by accident and from then on he always laughed at me when he saw me. He pointed at his own stomach and said, “I’m full.”

    Though he had a big and beautiful house, he wasn’t happy for the money was earned by his wife. His wife earned money to build the house by streetwalking. To be honest, his wife wasn’t charming, instead, Full was a handsome guy. His wife probably had her own way to attract men. The society was gradually changed. Poor people seemed to be lower than prostitutes.

    I raised my head to find PP’s old house was right before me. PP went to somewhere else and only left his tottering house. He was a teacher in elementary school. He was ferocious to his students but really docile to his wife. His wife was beautiful, yeah, most men liked beautiful woman.

    One time his wife played Mahjong in a shed far away from the village. They brought meat, instant noodles and fruits with them. Who knew the reason why two men and two women played Mahjong in such a wild place especially they weren’t couples? PP’s cousin was angry and disturbed their sweet dream. She even threw all their food away in the New River. A group of children fought with each other for it.

    When we were in elementary school, we didn’t have many toys to play with. We only played small cards with picture on them. One day during class, PP told us to hand out our cards and also threatened that if we didn’t hand out our cards, he would beat us. Most timid students hand all their small cards out. My deskmate just hid all his small cards in the bag without being influenced by the menace at all. I wasn’t willing to hand out all my small cards and also wasn’t willing to take the risk to be beaten by PP. When PP told us to go out so that he could exam our desks, I just took all my small cards and hid them in the teacher’s desk. Even though he found them, he didn’t know who did that. By examining only two desks, he told us to come in to have class again. Only my deskmate and I saved small cards. He saved his small cards by courage and I saved my small cards by strategy. Finally PP gave all small cards to his own sons and I thought it was really unfair. From then on, I knew the society was unfair. Even a teacher in elementary school could abuse his power to confiscate student’s property.

    Actually PP was a coward. Several days after his father died, he even didn’t dare to pee outside and had to let his wife accompany him. A man without courage was really not very good.

    Here is the house of Full’s big brother Deaf. Deaf didn’t have good hearing. It was said his hearing was ruined by chilli and I didn’t know whether it was true or not.

    When I was young, I always liked listening to him playing harmonica and learning songs from him, which was really a kind of entertainment. These days, he always worried about his son’s study. One time he asked me how to learn English so that he could tell his son about it. I told him about a kind of association method and he didn’t understand it. So I said, “What’s rooster in English?” He thought it was so easy and let me test another thing. I laughed, “Yeah, you think rooster is easy? Could you please describe all parts of it such as comb, eyes and beak? By association, you can expand vocabulary. ” He stared at me and could say nothing. His son got a high mark of English exam for college entrance and I didn’t know if it has anything to do with my method. All Deaf’s family worked hard to earn a better life. Though they weren’t as rich as Full, Deaf was much happier obviously than Full. I guessed probably earning one’s money in an honest way was the reason.
