Summer is coming...
Though it was rather hot outside at noon, I still decided to attend the last tutorial hosted by a famous scholar in my major field. It adopted a form of discussion of research plans or ideas raised by us students and then he would give comments and relative suggestions. Frankly speaking, at the very beginning, I suppose it would be of little help if I just listen but not deliver my own speech. But the facts proved it wrong. After listening one research plan, I would think if I were the speaker, I would do that in what way and explain it by what theory, as a result of which I kept high attention and persistent thinking. What’s more, the teacher’s comments and suggestions did make me feel refreshed suddenly not only on such concrete research but also on the way we should follow in our graduate study. To be honest, it is really the most impressive class in this half year study. And I was lucky to attend it, while it’s a great pity that I just attended once and the class was over.
Just as that scholar said, we graduate students should learn how to construct our own theory on the basis of concrete facts we conserve and how to operate our research plan, but not learn the knowledge itself. Under the “spoon-feeding” teaching system, it seems that I stay far away from thinking and practicing by myself. Maybe that’s one of the most important reason why I often had no idea when there was a need to do a paper.
So why not keep thinking when study?
