Nowadays, there are more and more material girls in China, who believe that money is more important than anything. In their mind, Chinese traditional morality is nothing but obsolete life criterion. Ma nuo (马诺) , a well-known material girl, have once said on a TV show that ‘I would rather cry in a BMW car than laugh on a bike’. This is a widespread phenomenon in china in these years. It’s estimated that more than 20% adolescent female are material girls.

Why have there been so many material girls? Maybe the reasons can be listed as follows. The first one is that the government has not attached enough importance to the morality construction, comparing to high-lightened economical construction. Besides, public media, such as the TV, newspaper, internet, etc. has not played a good role in the development of social culture. The third one is a shortage of morality education.

To sum up, the main cause of material girl phenomenon is due to lack of attention. It is high time that something were done upon it. For one thing, the government should make clear plans to establish a healthy social environment step by step. For another, the media should convey more constructive information to people through covering more affecting stories and news. Last but not the least, there is lots of good content in Chinese traditional culture, such as the concept of family, the habit of hard working, etc.. Therefore, children should be brought up with good traditional morality education. All these measures will certainly reduce the number of material girl in our country.
