The catcher in the rye

This Tuesday I finally finished the book The Catcher in the Rye by Jerome David Salinger ultimately. I’ve heard about this book when I was at middle school because it’s really a famous one. In my opinion, this book just reads like the Little Prince to some extent although the language styles used in them are way different. They two both tell the story from the perspective of a child. Therefore, they unveiled the world in their eyes. To Holden Caulfield from The Catcher in the Rye, the world around was not that satisfying and even sickened him. He thought the people around were all phonies: the school headmaster, his roommates, guys in the lousy bars and hotels...and he looked down upon all of them. He even wanted to walk away, down and down the road of the city blocks to the west. However, he missed his dead elder brother Allie very much-- Allie was like his bosom friend and brother, and his affections for his little sister Phoebe was really touching and natural. I was even moved when I got to the paragraphs with him watching Phoebe playing on the carrousel.

What’s more, Holden also cherished such a dream --- to be the catcher in the rye. “I keep picturing all these little kids playing some game in this big field of rye and all. Thousands of little kids and nobody’s around—nobody big, I mean—except me. And I’m standing on the edge of some crazy cliff. What I have to do, I have to catch everybody if they start to go over the cliff—I mean if they are running and they don’t look where they ‘re going I have to come out from somewhere and catch them. That’s all I’d do all day. I’d just be the catcher in the rye and all. I know it’s crazy, but that’s the only thing I’d really like to do”.

Generally speaking, I think it’s a good book and worth your time. If you happen to have read this book before, i'm all ears to hear your feelings and thoughts about it.

I also want to read this book, and I prefer the Chinese name than the English name!

I love both books: "The Catcher in the Rye" and "The Little Prince"! But I think the prince more like a child existing beyond the world and Holden a boy living beside us, sharing our feelings and struggles.

"The Little Prince" is more philosophical while "The Catcher in the Rye" is more realistic.
Where do you think the ducks on the lake go in winter?
