The best policy in tutoring: Communication

These days, tutor has leap to one of the most favorable jobs that college students tend to take as part-time jobs. In this reason, I interviewed Sophina, who has been many children’s tutor and let her students improved sharply. According to her opinion, communicating with her students plays a basic role and can be definitely remarked as a shortcut in tutoring.

As Sophina memorized, her first student was an extremely naughty boy with mediocre performance in his middle school. At first, Sophina turned to the boy’s mother for some advice about the teaching plan, since she was not confident enough to handle such a boy. However, his mother, just as the most parents in China, slipped into saying that the most useful policy for her child was a heavy schedule and she urged Sophina to arrange as much homework as possible for her son. Virtually, when Sophina followed her “order” for a period of time, this naughty boy started trying all means to irritate her and attempted to play truant.

Sophina said: To untie the bell, the person who tied it is required. It shows the most efficient way of tutoring is communicating directly with the students rather than seeking help from their parents blindly. After this lesson, Sophina tried to focus more on students and got the solution form the children himself. Sophina said: only when you once had been a low-caliber student, can you really experience that fear toward study and the exams seems to them sometimes a catastrophe. Communication can make the students trust their tutors and on this level, they may be more willing to share the difficulties in their study life. And in this reason, the tutor is not so much a teacher as a friend.

Generally speaking, I am in favor of his opinions. Communication bears much importance not only in tutoring but also in daily life. It can help cultivate a close relationship between tutors and their students. For both sides, the students who can get their difficulties settled down in time and achieve further improvement, and the tutors who can make a more specific teaching plan, can all benefit from this tutoring strategy.
