The struggle for life, in literal sense, means people in facing of a situation of life and death, fighting for survival either from fatal enemy or from hunger to death. While the struggle for life has become daily talks among people nowadays, the meaning of it has been exaggerated and dignified out of something essentially trivial. The struggle for life has actually become the struggle for success, struggle for more wealth, more power and struggle for outshining his peers and neighbors. To a certain extent, it is healthy and wholesome. But it is when the struggle for these external achievements become the sole purpose of life, at the cost of all the enjoyment that life has generously and indiscriminately offered, that people started to get stressed out and lost the intimate contact with nature and family.
Education has played an important role in leading the mass into this stressful situation by introducing tough competition to people when they were still children, ignored one of originally very important roles of education, teaching people how to enjoy life in a more delicate and cultivated way, a privilege to the educated. When a person is dominated by the philosophy of competition, his or her life would be too strenuous from too much focus on outshining the others. Rich people live in suspension for afraid of possible ruins, normal people live in nervous condition for afraid of lagging behind his contemporary, children are cooled and hardened by the tough competition in the school. The society at large could not be healthy and happy under such a tense situation.
Life should not be like a struggle, life is something came from the nature and will back to the nature , life should be as natural as the plant’s breathing of air. What I liked is a balanced life where there is, on the one hand, hard working for money which offers leisure and security, on the other, quiet enjoyment of life, intimate contact with nature and between the family.
