                                                    Uplook 1
The moment he first laid eyes on her, Ray felt he had fallen in love...

Ray composed the first love poem in his mind, love poems which were to change the course of his life for ever and more.
I see a nest of long black hair like silk
Charming liquid eyes, too
I see her lovely beaming smile
And her sweet sakura lips, too
And I think to myself
What a wonderful world
...
I see trees of green
Red roses too
I see them blue
For me and you
And I think to myself
What a wonderful world
" I left there, safe but not sound."
"Safe and sound"为英文惯用语,表安然无恙,但经狄更斯如此一改"safe but not sound"纵然安然,但心有恙。一种黑色幽默,还更把小说的压抑,the dark atmosphere through and through表现得极致。

"Ray! Are you okay? Why ya standing riveted to the ground? We got a job to do, ya know!" Phoebe, Ray's colleague from work, yelled to the latter.
"Aye, nothing, let's get back to work then." Ray forced a smile, phewing.

I may not get a chance to get to know her.
Ray was about to walk to another district along with Phoebe when suddenly it struck him that maybe God could lend one helping hand to him. With the poster in hand he drew in advance for propagandizing the teaching institution he was working for, Ray plucked up his courage to walk towards the girl he had fallen so hard, so fast for this time.

Daniel's notes: I guess it's so much for today, I am gonna continue writing this novel, hoping that you, readers, would kinda support and encourage me in doing so.
Let's get back to what I have promised to say about the Chinese title of this novel I have chosen as “暗地圣婴”. Remember I told you about the novel created by Charles Dickens in the later part of his life--"Great Expectations". Dickens was then in a state of realistic turmoil and emotional breakdown. From the first novel" The Pickwick Papers" which made a celebrity of Dickens, in whose novel Dickens wrote about the heroic deeds and the "good would finally defeat evil" to the Half-tragidic Great Expectations, Dickens had undergone a lotta pain and unjust.

When "Great Expectations" was first introduced to China, some translator translated the novel as 伟大的期望, which seems to a lot of guys faithful, right?
Hold it, babe
Every story has a plot and usually many lines connecting the good story. And some words, especially the title has denotations which are more than the superficial (the surface meaning).
From the beginning of the novel up till the end, the tone was Dark, Dark, and Dark, if one could use the color to describe the book. Actually when one reads the novel carefully, a bit tasting it, one could really see the color of the novel, i.e. dark, and the taste bitter.
Pip, the main character, was lonesome, helpless, unprotected and scared about the unkown violent world all the time.
Up till now, I, Daniel, don't see the Great Expectations here, rather,it's Gray Expectations.
Then Pip met Estella, the former falling in love, but only from his side, Pip began to desire to make a gentleman of himself, Pip worked hard with all that he could.
Here, we could see Pip was developing the Great Expectations deep down inside.
But Dickens,  never mentioned Great Expectations until the debut of the London Lawyer, Mr Jaggers, who announced to the boy, like he was doing that in the court," I now announce you the boy of Great Expectations."
What Mr Jaggers said highlighted the title, and this great expectations was often repeated, doubted from now on in Pip's heart.
The Japanese translated this book as Ooki na isai(庞大的遗产,意思二是锦绣前程)Good for the Japanese, they got both the surface and deep down meaning interpreted.
