当伟八十多岁时
行路微颤
发如雪
牙齿剩下三两颗
不知否伟还可不可以为丽丽你继续写诗
Love poems will still go to you, Lily
When Ray grows to falter in his walks
With a nest of snow-white hairs
And perhaps two teeth or three remained
Eighty years or more
Marks of Ray's age weakening existence
But never Ray's weakening love of you, Lily.
"Aye, Lily, here's the registration form from my teaching institution. Would you like to fill up your info, so that... we'll have someone contact you sometime as you think fit?"
Ray tried to talk sense, still hypnotized...
The registration form handed over to Lily, who began to fill it out in her lovely manner, Ray took advantage of the time glancing around the working environment of his beloved.
The palette of the bank was mostly red, seemingly a passionate feel. Embossed on the cardinal board of the Hall was the capitalized letter"M", a dirty pop one nowadays as one might usually associate with the giant mobile supplier" Motorola and the youth-smitten McDonald's. Aye, whatever the "M" Ray associated with then, the word "Mind" (理智)was surely in the impossibility. There appeared to be too many people stuffed in this too seemingly pee-wee(小)place, a striking disproportion. Figures walking in and out, voices vocalizing tones of hurriedness and a lack of associations. A girl working in such a financial institution, could she survive? Would her romantic deep down melt into the cold hard realistic attitude?
As Ray thought, he was infatuated by Lily's uniforms--though there were others wearing the same garments, the style Lily dressed was the most adorable--when a group of colored foreigners walked up here towards this bank. Ray's sight was turned to their direction immediately, as one might do naturally with an English talent.
Now the colored overseas friends walked up to the counter, from which they needed the service of applying for Master Card. The counter clerk was dealing with these foreigners in broken English when Ray stepped forward.
"How may I help you?"
"We need to apply for Master Cards or something of that kind. Dunno if you guys also call these cards the same name as we had then done in Hongkong doing our business, ya know, from which it can save us the trouble of exchanging money in International trading, and the like... What kinda procedures does one take to apply for one such card?"
"Uh-huh, I see, please wait a sec or two while I go check out."
With that Ray turned to the counter clerk and asked whom in a get-down-to-business tone( Of course this counter clerk was not Lily, had that been her, do you think Ray would still have done the job that efficient?)
Ray helped the colored foreigners solve their problem in fast, fluent English, which Lily overheard when she was standing in the Hall doing her job.
Consciously or subconsciously Ray was speaking his English just like he always does, or Ray had felt then the love of his life was standing there not far, not that far from him, he wanted to do his utmost to let Lily feel his charm.
With the job done, Ray actually walked immediately back to Lily...
"Sorry, I just..."
"Your oral English is so good. You know, just like many, I have been learning English from middle school on, yet I feel I am at a loss to deal with English, the grammar, the volcabulary, the expressions, my listening comprehension, I feel I am a failure..."
Don't cry, never shed down your lovely tears. You know, right now when I see your coy face with a touch of unhappiness and disappointment, I get so weak in my knees. I wanna hold you tight right there and protect your little hurting soul. I am gonna melt in your lovingly warm body, I am gonna say,"Not to worry about a thing, I was born to be your guardian, born to be the one letting no harm in this world dare to make you weep tears.
"Hey, Daniel, Are you Okay?"
"Aye," Ray had finally returned from his palace of fantasy,"Nothing..."
"You seem to have been drifted to a place so far away, what's on your mind?" Lily asked him in her lovely voice, seemingly much concerned.
Aye, I must have made a sentimental fool out of myself in front of Lily by stumbling over my words, by my wandering thoughts. She must have thought me weird. My gosh, what else can be worse? I don't want it like this, I don't want it like this!
"Sorry that Daniel, I inquired about your personal things, maybe you are just working too hard, I got a feeling of this that you are always working too hard as you are growing up,right? But you still haven't answered my question yet. "
"Lily, I am sorry, what question?"
"I don't know what went wrong with my English, maybe I just did not like English in the first place, that's why I did not learn it so well. To be honest, up till now, I am not so interested in the English language, but I need to use it, as we all do in our jobs. In fact, I am learning French as an amateur, I think learning something in one's spare time might be good..."
"Wow, French, you are a princess filled with romantics. I know you are."
She flushed. She is lovely and enslaves me totally!
Ray unfolded the poster in hand, on which he had drawn a Cartoon Shakespeare with which he actually was intending to do his propaganda. Ray could always think quick on his feet. Right here right now from the propaganda message he was to send with the image of Shakespeare, Ray's mind art attacked...
In the name of Shakespeare's lit gifts, Ray quoted,
"Shall I compare thee to a summer's day
Thou art more mild and temperate..."
(怎可将你比作夏日
因你比其更温柔可爱)
He was reciting this sonnet Shakespeare had once sent to his "Dark Lady" when Ray realized maybe this would not fit right now since Lily might not understand lits by this giant, whose works were usually hard to understand.
Ray's mind art attacked again.
"In fact it's quite easy to learn English, sometimes you can use simple words to express meaningful things..."
Ray wrote down on a piece of paper which Lily handed to him, the first poem given to Lily, and which was to bring Ray some unexpected and haunting experiences in the days to come.
"Rose is red
Violet is blue
Sugar is sweet
But not so sweet as you"
红红玫瑰
蓝蓝郁金香
糖很甜
但没有你那么甜
Lily gave Ray a girlish sweet smile, which the latter was to live as part of his life, till the day he died.
丽丽冲着忧郁伟甜蜜一笑,那独有的少女式的微笑,将融为忧郁伟日后生活的一部分,欲罢不能,直至忧郁伟死去那天也不能把这笑割舍。
