The best present for my parents’ birthday is to be with them. I decided to share their birthdays from this year on. Sure, I did and I hope I will. Remembering one summer holiday I took a part-time job in a factory where was far away from home. I phoned my Mom two weeks before her birthday; I told her that I will go back home to celebrate with her. Disappointedly, I forgot her special day, let alone a call. After a period of time, my Mom said to me that “my girl, please don’t give me promise, sometimes it turns out to be a disappointment, so unexpected surprise is better”. She was waiting for my return for a whole day. Absolutely, I know how disappointed she was.

This matter made me better understand that promise is an action but not merely words. So I don’t make promise easily since then.

My Mom was joyful and exalted because of my return and kept on asking why I came back suddenly. I beamed. My Dad interrupted, she came back to celebrate your birthday. Guess what? My Mom forgot her birthday; thanks to my Dad who always remembering her birthday precisely.

I phoned my parents on my way back. How nice, my Mom prepared me nutritious lunch. It’s delicious! I like my Mom’s cooking as always.

My Dad always teaches us that filial piety is essential, not only to parents but also elders. So after lunch, I went to visit my grandmother who lives 3 kilometers from us. Although grandmother is a nearly 80 year-old senior citizen, she has a vibrant-looking. Gleefully, she was radiant with joy to see me. She is a contented person who enjoys life thoroughly; also, she has an admirable attitude toward life. She told me that “happiness is like a visitor, you cannot command her appearance; you can only appreciate her when she does show up. And you cannot force happiness to happen, but you can make sure you are aware of it when it does. Happiness is a choice; reach out for it at the moment it appears”.
