Are You A Happy Person? 2011-8-19

I feel morose, my partner complained to me.

Why so? I asked.

Now, I realized how cheerful you are! I cannot cheer up without hearing your laughter. I am feeling so sullen, it must takes me a period of time to accustom to the days without your giggling. She said unhappily.

Em… All good things must come to an end. This is life; sometimes we have no choice but follow the orders. That’s why we must learn to cherish what we have now rather than regret in the future. It’s alright; I could come to visit you often. I answered sympathetically.

I am a sanguine as well as a carefree person. People always say “I like to talk to you, your optimistic attitude is infectious”. Maybe I haven’t got a clue to know what frustration is about or I am too innocent to be complicated. In a lot of times, I couldn’t understand why people feel depressed so easily? If we knew the result cannot be changed, so why not accept the fact positively and be realistic? It’s no use dwelling on the result if it cannot make a miracle. Anyway, that’s no way for me to be an escapist.

Ha! I like my new office so much. As I said before, I like the three windows the best. The other day, I bought a plant in our residential subdistrict. I like its greenness, poor me, I forgot the name of it. Jolly, I was extremely happy with my plant though. I carried it to my office and shared my happiness with some of my colleagues who are work in the same section. They always laugh at me that I am too easy to satisfy. A plant can make me happy like a dog with two tails. Ha! I can still be a child at heart because of the mere fact that I didn’t grow up inside.

Please allow me to share a good news with you guys, I have won a translation certificate and got it today. Haha…. It is unexpected surprise! I was translating the story just for practicing meanwhile for fun and never thought I could win such a brilliant certificate. Hehe…

A bird startled by the mere twang of a bowstring

Translated by Smiling Angel

One day, Geng Ying and the king of Wei were on the high platform. They looked up and saw a flying bird. Seeing this, Geng Ying said to the king: “I can shoot down birds  by simply plucking my bowstring”

“Can archery achieve such a high level? ” the king said doubtfully. Geng Ying responded: “Yes, it can.” Just then a solitary wild goose flew over from the east and Geng Ying, at once, pretended to pose for a shooting and pulled the bowstring forcefully, twang! A wild goose fell down. Amazed by this, the king said with bewilderment: “Unbelievable! Your archery can obtain to this!” Geng Ying said: “This is a wounded bird; it feared the twang of bowstring but not my superb skill" The king felt puzzled: “How did you know that the flying wild goose had been wounded?” Geng Ying responded: “The goose was flying slowly because the old wound was painful; it was crying in a dolorous tone because it had lost its flock. With the unhealed old wound and the lingering fright at heart, when it heard the sound of the bowstring. it tried its best to soar, but its old wound hurt again that brought it down.

Nowadays “A bird startled by the mere twang of a bowstring” is used to describe people who are so frightened from past experience that they become extremely nervous when encountering similar situations again.
