Multiple subject vs. One subject

Hot 2441 views. 2013-7-2 15:07

Some universities require student to choose variety of subjects, others only require students to specialize in one subject. From my perspective, I support the first one. And here are my reasons.

First of all, a university has plenty of education and research resources. It is wisely to make the full use of these valuable resources while studying at the university. And choose variety of subjects can help you to achieve this. Through learning these courses, student are able to get access to knowledge and resources in different areas. On the contrary, if a student only specialize in one subject, he will not have the opportunity to get access to the professional knowledge in other areas offered by university.

Second of all, by choosing many other subjects can help student to broaden the scope of their knowledge and enhance their personal ability. Whatever the student will concentrate on after graduate, it is important to build a stable foundation of knowledge. For example, if you want to concentrate on business administration after graduate, you must possess the knowledges in economy, law and marketing.

Finally, students can be more adaptable in their future career if they take variety of subjects during their university. It is obvious that as the development of modern society, employers are more likely to hire people who have comprehensive knowledge and outstanding abilities. If a student take variety of subjects in university, he will be more adaptable for the requirement of the society, and be able to easily adjust to different kind of jobs.

In conclusion, though choosing multiple of classes will cost much more time and energy than specialize in one subject, it is truly good for your future and helpful for your self-achievement.

I agree with you. Curiosity is the best teacher. Students should have a chance to change their subject, or have chance to choose variety of subjects.

Actually, there is no proper answer to this question. Both have their own advantages. Universities are supposed to produce qualified people, therefore, it is necessary to major in a subject. However, overall knowledge is also required so varied courses are acceptable too.

Seems an overhaul of university is required to meet the present modern times.
