Should business hire employees for their entire life?

Hot 31138 views. 2013-7-10 15:54 | employees, business, company, entire

In the modern society, many business are now realizing that job security make employees less motivated to work and this leads to the less profits for the company, so that people start considering whether companies should offer employees job security for their entire life. From my perspective, offering job for entire life is not a wiser choice for the development of a company and the society. My arguments for this view are based on the following points.

First of all, I personally believe that businesses should hire new employees from time to time as this process brings new ideas, new expertise, new motivation, new energy, new technology, new beliefs, new culture, motivated spirit and other similar features which is necessary for an individual and organization growth. In order to survive and thrive, a company, like a human body, needs to constantly bring in new ideas and fresh minds into corporation, and supersede those positions that are not needed any more. Although this might sound cruel, but it is for the survival of the business. If the business itself cannot continue, every employee will lose his or her job.

Second of all, on the employee side, engaging a lifetime job in one company is always not good for his personal advancement. He tends to be satisfied with his current job, and make nno plans for his future career advancement. This is harmful for both the company and himself. In fact, it is those people who hop around among different companies can get a big increase in terms of salary and their abilities.

Generally speaking, taking into account of all these factors, I do strongly disagree that companies should offer their employees jobs for entire life.

I do not agree with you completely. As you know,  to cultivate kind of culture needs a long of time. To form a methodology of doing business or to build relationship with customers needs a long of time also. In today's business world, only experienced employees can produce profits to enterprise. Actually, In big enterprise, boss is so important that he/she should indicate the direction of enterprise, and he/she should build a vista to all the members of his/her enterprise. Why iPhone and Microsoft is so successful? just because their leaders could give every member's a hope.In China, people are so blundering that little would do research. everybody wants to be civil servant. Corruption is widespread in CCP. Technology is not respected.

I don't think this would work. The boss would need blood to keep the company going and staff should be free to choose jobs until they find a job suitable to themselves. There would be no incentive to improve if the job is guaranteed yours for life.

In Japan, they have this system of lifelong employment. When you join a large company, they would expect you to work with them for a lifetime, but you would not get much chance for advancement and promotion because everyone is sticking to their position. You won't be poor and you don't expect to be rich. What kind of life is that?
