Such as Bungee, cliffs diving and so on, extreme sports are popular. For being concerned about heart attack, which has not broken out yet, fortunately, I prefer to ignore their hot invitation. Their going out of their way to court such excitements seems somewhat strange and hard to understand especially for those who are always trying to seek for a peaceful, natural, and undemanding lifestyle. One comment on these extreme sport lovers from one of my teachers makes sense: once the world war breaks out, are you sure that these guys will stand in the forefront, still have enough courage to help them drive away the fear of death?
In the early years, driven by human’s desire to conquer, a kind of prototype might be mountaineering, or mountain climbing. Humans try to show their courage, and also to pursue the spiritual self-satisfaction by challenging themselves and the nature, and in their own wishful thinking, conquering it.
You may have realized that those sports, in actually, haven’t received a warm welcome in China just as they have in other countries especially in European. There is an explanation sounds reasonable: Generally, in China, our remote ancestors adopted a critical attitude toward conquest. He never attempted to conquer the world, but live in harmony with it. He wished to be like fish in the sea, a bird on the wind: to pass without leaving a trace of his existence. Being not achieving and leaving the world quietly, was important.
It maybe somewhat difficult for the weak to acknowledge their weakness, just like human beings, so they try to “conquer”: to climb to the top of mountain, to jump from cliff, to dive into deep sea. They are proud to announce that they win the game, of course, no one loses it.
