It is an old movie with nice music and dramatic plots. 1900, the name of the hero called by his foster father, came from the idea that he was born in the first month of the first century. Born on the big ship and deserted by his parents, 1900 grew up under the care of the whole crew of the ship------doctors, cooks, sailors even the captain-----though it was illegal of them to keep the little kid. With flair for music, 1900 won a reputation of an excellent pianist who surpassed the famous musician who invented Jazz. He played piano on the shaky ship in a free and easy way and was admired by all the people on board. There was one important fact about him------he never left the ship for one step through his life. The reason of this factor constituted the core idea of the movie-------human’s conflict in mind when facing uncertainty.

Born and grew up on the ship, 1900 never knew what the world on land looked like, which was the key point to his final choice to stay on the ship. The ship was his whole world in which he knew everything and can deal with every problem. “Land,” as he said, “is a ship too big for me. It's a woman too beautiful, a voyage too long, perfume too strong. It's music I don't know how to make.” He had once got down the stairs, trying to set up the first step to the land but gave up finally when he saw the complex streets. Taking the world on land as a God’s piano which he could not control, he chose to stay on the ship regardless the fact that it will be soon demolished. He would rather die than live on the unfamiliar land.

When facing uncertainty, we are tempted to have the same feeling as 1900-------fear, worry, aimlessness, hesitation. We don’t know what our life will look like, not sure whether it will be better or worse than present. It’s easier for us to bury ourselves in the old familiar world where everything we had got accustomed to. However, usually we will not reconcile ourselves to staying in the old world since there are a lot of temptations outside. Therefore our heart turns into uneasiness and restlessness until we finally settle down. In the movie, 1900 chose to stay in the old world. But in real life, what we will choose? To leave, or not to leave, that’s a question.
