Slogan does not justify the purpose it wants to realize. We Chinese people have been hearing the government say “serve the people heart and soul” for several decades. While, time and time again, we the mass are actually serving those who have been shouting out the slogan ever since it came into existence in China, so funny. People would doubt what their “service” is. Serving the people heart and soul means serving the society, serving the mass. Obviously many people in the authority lack the spirit of service; they are just doing the opposite.

Social servie doesn’t mean just going out and cleaning the streets. No matter what work you are in, no matter what duties you are performing as an official or an employee, to efficiently do your work and duties with diligence and devotion is social service. For those who have been “serving the people heart and soul” should refelct on what they have really done for the people, and for the salary and benefits they receve from their privileged offical positions. I think those in authority who can discharge their functions well enough to justify their salary and benefit the mass give them are also rendering real service. However, to find such officials in our beloved country is just like obtaining a moon from a lake, and pigs that can fly.

Real service is an empression of gratitude to society. Without the society, we are nothing. One’s name and fame, happiness and comforts, and the like, are all derived from society. One finds fulfillment in society, one realizes his/her dreams in society, and one’s whole lot of life is from soceity. Facts being like this, if man does not serve society, whom else can he serve? Gratitude requires that one should serve society which is the source of all benefit enjoyed by man. Service does not need money and material; true service needs a heart filled with love. All service done without a love-filled heart is as dry as dust. Fill your hearts with love. Once you are baptized with the Spirit, everything looks good and beautiful. Without this lofty destiny, man ceases to be man.

Real service should also be done with the spirit of sacrifice, not money obcession. Men are now all engaged in occupations of acquiring money, money, and more money. They are crazy about the feeling that through money alone they can get all that they want. This obcession is the root cause of the crisis mankind is facing now. Though money is useful for certain purposes, it is not the main source of security and happiness for man. Don’t forget, example of crisis, like the one in 2008, which almost ruined the global financial system is due to the greedy want of money of people in Wall Street. Man should learn to lead good lives with modest incomes.

The Spirit of sacrifice is essential for rendering dedicated service. With this spirit, service can be an unbelievabe way for spiritual purification and uplift.

Apart from what mentioned above, man also needs to set up good example showing the true spirit of service in the society, to have people follow suit, to make the world better.
