Today, I put an essay “A true Story” in my blog here in DioEnglish. It seems that most of the readers did not notice it is a joke, which directly leads me to arrive at two assumptions. Firstly we people sometimes are unable to appreciate English jokes; secondly, the impact of mindset on us is strong.

Mindset, according to Wiki, is a set of assumptions, methods, or notations held by one or more people or groups of people that is so established that it creates a powerful incentive within these people or groups to continue to adopt or accept prior behaviors, choices, or tools. This phenomenon of cognitive bias is also sometimes described as mental inertia, "groupthink", or a "paradigm", and it is often difficult to counteract its effects upon analysis and decision making processes.

Joke is sort of philosophy. To better understand it, we need to try and familiarize ourselves with different things. I have watched English TV programmes and movies with English-speaking people many times. Whenever encountering something funny, they would burst into laughters; while I only seat there, unable to understand why the stuff on screen is so funny. Jow Wong, is a Chinese Amercian comedian. It is often the case that when he tells jokes on TV, foreigners would burst into laughters, while Chinese viewers are not feeling the fun the least, for he always tells jokes in an American way, or western logic, a way that is foreign to us.

Mindset, as explained hereinabove, is cognitive bias. To objectively look at things, we need to get rid of it. It can sometimes even prevent people from making progress. We are now stressing the importance of innovative or creative or originality thinking. To achieve this goam, getting rid of cognitive bias are important, and further, opening to different ideas and new things is also more than necessary.
