Here we are on the first day of 2012. We are lucky I think, because the world doesn't end as the rumors went, and we still get to see the first light of 2012 if we got early enough this morning. On the threshold of this brand new year, however, I don't have the sense of today being a special day. Everyday is actually just the same ordinary day. Some days are particularly marked out only because we make them special. We have decided that this is the first day of a year, that is a memorial day, and we set aside days for celebration of different sorts. But they are all in fact just days with 24 hours, and without the meanings we have given them are just like other days that we haven't given a particular name to. It's especially true when one doesn't get to join any activities set for these days. When a festival doesn't have the festive atmosphere, it is not a festival at all. But if every day is spent and cherished as a special day then you have festival everyday.
It seems that people are tempted to review the past year and make resolution for the new year. Maybe they do this because it's a convenient time to call it a year with things coming to an end. And resolutions give them a drive to achieve something they desire but haven't always have the courage to pursue. Yet life goes on continuously without a sudden stop at a certain point to mark the end of a period and the start of the next period. And each day is followed by another day seamlessly without one moment lingering longer to show an end and a start. Given that, the mark of different periods is just the psychological reminder that it's time to move on. Though you still wanna hang back, others' resolution-making pushs you forward. You feel guilty to still stand on the same point.
Brrrrrrrrrr I'm writing nonsense here. Excuse me for that. I just wanna complain about the fuss of new year celebration because I don't get a few days off but am chased by the devil of paper writing. It almost got me. I'd better go back to the race and keep a safe distance from it.
Anyways, happy new year to you all.
