It is a custom in China to have zongzi (pyramid-shaped dumplings made of glutinous rice wrapped in bamboo or reed leaves) on the Dragon Boat Festival.I ate a lot these days, and bring two boxes home to share with my family. As a northerner,i prefer zongzi tasted sweet, even think there's only one taste-sweet in the world until hearing another salted taste from my classmate from south. But i still can't adopt this tasted stuffing with meet or egg many years.I always think that if glutinous rice taste salted, shouldn't it be classified as shaomei?hehe~~I hv been rolled in this mind for many years.May be can't imagined even for me,funny things is that 3days ago, i help my colleague (one southerner) to buy the salted zongzi.i try one out of curiosity.woo~i like this taste, different with shaomei at all.We uarally feel greasy when eating shaomei.but if u hv eaten salted zongzi,u should be awared that the salted zongzi does not tasted greasy even stuffing with meet but only tasted delicious.I guess the secret is the bamboo or reed leaves, just due to wrapped with this, the light aroma surpass the greasy, only leave delicious taste in mouth.
