liver transplantation operation

Hot 2982 views. 2014-5-2 17:20 | liver, transplantation, operation

I was waked up by a phone at 1:30 am, and rushed to the hospital to take part in a operation, which was given to a hepatic cirrhosis patient, who was only 33 years old, and was waiting for the donation for a long time . Yes , he was fortunate and eventually get the appropriate liver, which was from a 10 years old boy who died from a tumor in his head and his families were willing to donate his organs to other people. We thanked for this boy and his familiies, and the patient should feel gratefull for the boy.
With everything getting ready, the operation begun. Firstly, we took the boy' liver as soon as possible, and protect it by special liquid and put it in icy blocks.Professor said the quality of the liver is very good, and the operation of taking liver was rather successful. The next step is to transplant the liver to the patient.
We spent about one and half hour to finish the preparatory work for the patient before the operation. Then the main process begun, we open the belly of patient carefully, as we imagined , the cirrhosis of the liver is very severe, and portal veins  varix is so serious. We freed the liver carefully, then we block the blood flow of inferior vena cava and hepatic artery system, and cut the portal vein, hepatic artery, inferior vena cava, and common bile duct.
The following step is the most  important step for the liver transplantation. It is the connection for those ducts, and suture requires high techniques. We should make sure the ducts are not stenosis, also  not leak. So this procedure took us most of the time.
The operation was very successful, the state for the patient in the whole process is good. I felt lucky for the patient, and couldnot help thinking the boy wo donated his organs. I pray for him to have a happy life in the heaven deeply in my heart. And hope the patient can recover from the operation smoothly and quickly, having a long life after the operation. Only like this, could be the best return to the boy I think .
After the belly was closed, it was 4 pm, I really felt so tired. The whole process, from 1:30 am to 4pm, I only had a rest for about one hour. Sending the patient to ICU, and back to ward, I was engaged in the things in the ward for another two hours, then back to home.
I donnot know whether the patient and his family know we docters try our best to make his operation successful, the sacrifice is most of us only slept two or four hours between this 36 hours, and we have about 8 clinical doctors and 4 nurses and 3 anesthetic docters to finish his operation as qucikly as we can.
It was really an unforgettable  Laber holiday. Tired , but help to give a new life to a person.

I really admire doctors who are saving lifes, it is a honorable job, though I do not know much about the operation, but it really gives me a lesson about the procedure of a liver transplantation.
Besides, I also pay my great respect for the voluenteers of organs donation, without them, there will no one lucky patient to accept such a gift from god to keep him alive again.

Yes, at the time when taking the organs from the boy, I really felt so touched in my mind. Actually, he donated his liver, kidney and cornea, that can give a new life to other three people.

I have a friend who passed away last month due to Jaundice and liver problems. He could not find a compatible liver for transplant and eventually succumbed to the disease.

Traditions are hard to change. Quite a lot of people still believe in preserving the body intact and refuse to donate their organs after death. When life has ended, the organs would simply rot away, so why not donate it and save a life? Just hope people would change their belief.

Many people nowdays are waiting for liver transplantation, but actually its very hard to find donations, let alone matching liver. And the expense is high for most of the families.
