Money matters, but happiness comes first

We have a rather rough start to 2010. Things have turned out to be ugly recently. Last night a sharp ring penetrated the darkness and dragged us out of the mists of sleep quite rudely. Automatically flipping on the light switch, my husband reached out for his cell with great reluctance.

With the voice rambling on over the other line, his brow knotted together and his expression became very alarmed.

“Stay there, I'll come in an hour." He barked an order and hanged on the phone.

“What’s going on?” I asked, fighting a panic rising from my stomach. It was 3:00 am, that could not be good.

“A stupid guard smashed a customer’s BMW, can’t you believe it? The greatest irony is that he doesn't even know how to drive!” he said through his clenched teeth, I could feel how fragile his control was behind his stark face. "I got go." he got up and begun to put on his cloth.

“Can’t it wait till morning? It’s midnight!” I protested, knowing how exhausted he was, and how badly he needed more sleep.

“You know I can’t.” he said dryly and left.

Stared at the closed door, I signed. After he was appointed as property manager three months ago, we almost could kiss goodbye to our once peaceful life. The area in his charge is crowed with bars, clubs, restaurants and Spa center, however, most of the staff assigned to him are young, lack of experience and undereducated, generally speaking, they don’t have enough skills to handle delicate situation such complicate environment has required for. It’s like carrying a bomb you don’t know when it would go off. My husband has tried everything he could, but emergencies still come up at the most improper moment.

In the morning, I gave him a call. The situation was worse than we expected. The BMW’s owner happened to be those you would never want to cross with. The car is not insured, so the repair charge would be way too much for a guard could take. There is no way that the company would take any responsibilities for a guard’s stupidity. But as his direct manager, my husband was once again caught up in a sudden predicament which seems no way to evade.

One of his friends is offering him a job as releasing manager. The pay is not as good as the present one, but he started to consider it seriously because he could do something he really likes. No matter what his decision is, there is nothing I could do but give him my full support. Money matters, but his happiness comes first.

Men have to put up with pressure though they don't like to. Happiness is based upon fulfillment they achieved by overcoming  pressure. By the way, I've made a cup of coffee after I read your story about Janehouse. And I am sipping.

Yes, as you said challenges and pressures could make a man tougher. but it's like double-edge blade, too much of them might cause some serious troubles. it's just not worth to sacrifice health and pleasure for a better paid.
I am glad that you like my story. I wrote it with my heart
