Part 1: The Land Below the Wind

When we were almost suffocated by the mounting-up pressures, we decided to gave us a break and surrendered to our cravings for the sun, sand and the tropical lushness.  Packing our bags, we left ever-buzzing noise of the city and headed for Kota Kinabulu---a city located on the west coast of “the Land Below the Wind."

Even the plan of Air Asia had some spirit, offering us a glimpse of this romantic escape.

We booked our tickets about half a year ago at unbelievable price: 1768 yuan in total for three round-way tickets (including supersize regular luggage fee). We had thought it was a good idea to bring our son with us, but finally we changed our plan. A two-year-old baby was certainly too young for this trip. Still I hope one day three of us could make a family trip to the beach. Since the air ticket didn’t cost us much, we spent rather freely on the other items. With Excellence ECO-Tour Agent’s help, we booked a tour package of 3d/2n Manukan Island Resort and two nights’ stay in Shangri-La Tanjung Aru Resort. Our guide, Xiao Lin, picked us up at the airport and sent us to our first stay: Promendade hotel( 238RM/per night).

As soon as we entered into the lobby, we were greeted by a Chinese Tiger statue. “恭喜发财”was seen on it’s chest. For a moment, I had an illusion that we were back to China. However, unlike in Chengdu, there was a leisure atmosphere in the air. No one rushed into things, and no one was in haste. Just like Xiao Lin said, a very typical life style of Sabah---Take your time, and enjoy your life.

After checked in, it was already 6pm. We started our venture in this strange land.  On the street, brown buildings played a bright contrast to its background: the sky, the coconut...

Twin-sky Seafood was mentioned many times in travel column. It's not far away from where we stayed. However, it still took us about half an hour to find it, but worth it. All the food we tried are not oily and sauce is mild spicy and sweet. We asked for air-conditional sitting arrangement, so we only needed to pay 5% service charge. If we chose to sit on the open-air, the service charge would be 15%.

Fried Crab is really yummy; the famous butter tiger spawns is not my cup of tea, just so-so.

Pricing was typical OK. It cost us 238 RM/5 persons in total
