Happiness is a trick game

454 views. 2010-4-25 07:23 |Individual Classification:Reflection|

For the last month, I was headed into a complete mess for no especial reason. Everything seemed to be out of control. My once exciting and challenging job was nothing more than a boring and exhausting routine of writing reports, upgrading database and sorting things out. With double pressures from my personal life and my work, I was caught up by a strong feeling of inner numbness. At first, I thought I could get on with it. But I was wrong. The pressure was mounting, expectations were high, and the phone didn't stop ringing. I became over-sensitive and irritable, which made things worse. The truth is I hated myself for what I was. The harder I tried to get myself back, the further I was carried away. Then I realized that I had been putting too much pressure on myself to be successful and trying to keep up with the others. And it was high time for me to slow down and take it easy.
The first step I took was to reschedule my timesheet. I picked up the most important and urgent things and deleted the others. I must allow myself for some sports and leisure activities or I would no doubt head towards a breakdown. Then I tried to look at things through different eyes, tried to find joys from the trivial things in life. And I was amazed by the power of those little things to make me happy: a warm smile from a stranger; hearty thanks from my co-worker, an email from a long lost friend. I used to take them for granted, but once I received them with my heart, they would become so different and show their magic powers to me.

So I began to think about this question: What can make us feel happy?

In this burst and hurst world, we usually attach the happiness to the success we can get, or the fame and fortune we can achieve. But so many cases have proved: a great successful person might end up with tragic fate while an nobody might lead a happy-go-lucky life.

So I am thinking about it again and again, tried to find out the answer. Do material possessions can make us feel happy? Surely not, because we never get ahead of our material wants. The more we get, the more we need. How can we be happy when we are unsatisfied? The success in career does give us a sense of satisfaction, but at some point our jobs can't meet our personal needs. There's time we will feel tired, and don't want to be caught up in this rat race any longer. Love is still not the answer when we have so many ups and downs in love.

What on earth can make us feel happy? For children happiness have a magic quality. Playing hide-out in the playground, or playing teachers-and-students in the house can give children sheer delight. Though kids also experience lows, they will soon go through and find something joyful to cheer up. The older we are, the harder we can feel happy. Those extraordinary things such as promotion, love and birth might give us some joys, but they also bring the responsibilities and the afraid of the loss. For the adults, happiness is more complicated.
I read in a book that happiness is not only the good luck or fortune, but also the capacity for enjoyment. The children surely have stronger ability to find fun than the adults, because they know how to enjoy the little things in life. And the adults usually get consumed and diminished, worrying about all the things that need improving, they can easily overlook the pleasure they get from loving and being loved, the company of friends, and good health. So I think I can make a conclusion here. What can make us happy? It's not something we are wishing for, but ourselves. The more we can enjoy what we have, the happier we are.

Now for me, happiness is to finish this article and post it into my blog. Perhaps happiness is just a trick game. The key point is your ability to play it.

Wow, it's a great job. I really appreciate it. So I have written it down in the notebook. You said double pressure put on yourself, and caught up by a strong feeling of inner numbness, which shocked me; So do I; Graduated from college for less than one year, I feel something is different from at school. My parents worried my personal life for that I worked on study in school, and now worked in society heart and soul. As a matter of fact, I really wanna make them let their heart at rest. But something is out of the control or It's Greek for me.  Absolutely! Happiness is like a tricky game, the key point is your ability to play it.

I can't agree with you more. It's our attitude that decides our hapiness. If we can keep a childlike innocence in our heart, we will feel happier..It's time to rearrange myself, thank you~~

Right, what we have are much more precious than what we don't have. Unfortunately, most people don't realize that until they lost it. Think about the family, health, love, friendship, faith, curiosity and desire to learn, willingness to help others, and most important of all, hope.

I learned this from my two-year-old son, who find things as little as a bottle enchanting.
