Day 3: Up, Up, Climbing Up

409 views. 2010-10-19 14:07 |Individual Classification:travel|

“Sweetie, wake up.” Someone was stroking my face. I moaned and tried to push away.

“Come on, wake up, do you like to see Grandpa Sun getting up?” Mummy’s voice finally penetrated my dream and reached my dazed brain.

“Hmmmm?” I blinked once, twice and yawned.

“Grandpa Sun is going to get up. Do you like to take a look? It’s very amazing.” Mummy said, and this time the eagerness in her voice finally got me.

I struggled into an upright position, and Mummy started to put clothes on me.

“Are you crazy? Let him sleep and you go back to bed too. You got headache last night!” From another bed came Daddy’s rumbling, early-morning voice.

“I’m fine now. It’s a rare opportunity, you know.” Mummy replied serenely.

“I don’t want to sleep, and I want to see Grandpa Sun Getting up!” Now I was fully awake. Loads of questions rushed into my mind: How does Grandpa Sun get up? Does he even have a Bed? Does he yawn or does he whine like Papa? No way would I go back to sleep now.

Within in a few minutes, we were ready and left.

It was still dark outside. Usually I would be scared, but this time my curiosity got an upper hand. Sitting in pushchair, I took a good look around. In the morning the lounge by the river was long, L-shaped, as serene and dreamy as the hues of the waves. We strolled along the riverbank, enjoying the freshness of the early morning. It was getting brighter, but there was no Grandpa Sun in sight.

“It looks like no sunrise for us this time.” Mummy murmured.

“Why?” I asked disappointingly. “Because the clouds are too thick and…” Mummy paused, struggling for the proper words. Just right at the moment, an answer popped out: “Because today the cock didn’t crowd at dawn!” I exclaimed. Mummy laughed and said: “Yes, you are right, clever boy!”

You see, even though I am only three years old, I do know a lot of theories. Then something caught my eyes. “Mummy, Look!” I pointed at a boat on the river. “Fisherman is catching the fishes.” Mummy explained. I stared at the man on the boat who was casting some net wide over the river, quietly fascinated. “Will they let the fishes go after they caught them?” I asked. “No, they wouldn’t.” “Why?” “Because they caught fish for you to eat.” That’s mummy’s answer. Wow, PUKEY. I’m not sure I want to eat fish anymore.

Although we didn't see sunrise, the morning was still enchanting.

Finally Papa got up and we headed to Mountain Lu. As I mentioned before I hate walking, but strangely climbing always fascinated me. Therefore I enjoyed a lot about today’s trip. Many temples scattered over the mountainside. Mummy prayed to Buddha, and I followed her strictly. Yes, I know everything about Pray. You wrinkle your nose, you wrinkle your brow, you wrinkle everything on your face to show how seriously you are. Then you kowtow and Buddha would bless you. To make sure I did the right thing, I even took a quick peek at Mummy. Yes, I did everything perfectly!

Did you know what else I found on the mountain? Monkeys! Lots of them, lively and buoyant monkeys. I was way too excited. My heartbeat, thrown into high gear thanks to this unexpected encounter, was pounding against my rib cage so hard I could feel the thuds. That’s really too much for me to take.

Monkey is just like that!

It’s was one of the glorious moments in my life. Since I climbed up the mountain all by myself, obviously it was something big for a baby like me to achieve, everyone gave me sweet compliments, even the strangers. I was happy; I felt I was capable of doing anything. I was indeed on cloud nine!

To be honest, he is easily scared. but as a three year old, i guess that's understandable. wish one day he could grow up to be a brave, responsible wonderful man

i hope so, but raising a child is not that easy. it requires a lot creativity, imaginations and guts.  i am afraid that sometimes i was the one being manipulated.

my son is already in college, so i know what it means to be a mun or dad. yeah, it is a challenging job actually, but at the same time it is rewarding. you just never know how fast your child is growing. to some extent, we would be glad to be manipulated becoz we know they are making great progress. :-)

surely!
my son is also a little timid, just like your son, thus i always keep encouraging him in daily life,  inducing him to play with other boys.
