Losing Battle

The worst thing about going facial is that they always pour out the hard sell. Almost every visit to the club, I was bombarded with the information about their products and services. The constant line the staff here like to pick up is: “You don’t look well. You must have a very stressful week, don’t you?” They emphasized it with their professional understanding smiles. In the next ten minutes, they would make you feel like having aged ten years, and unless you pick up their treatments immediately you would beyond any help. Although I have my own believe, sometimes I still buy more than I need just to shut them up. Things get much better when I choose Ping Ping as my Beutician. She is a simple, awkward girl, always being bossed around by the others. Her timid, guileless face doesn’t help her to win the trusts from the customers. Hard sell tactic is too much for her to master. Sometimes she would murmur something like ‘you -don’t- look- well’ stuff, but if I kept silent and didn’t give her any encouragement, she would go scarlet immediately, and obviously become too embarrassed to give another try. So I can enjoy some precious quiet moments at beauty salon now. Her service is not bad at all. She just doesn’t know how to bluff. It is not good in the business where the majority of earnings are coming from the commissions. Her withdrawn personality certainly holds her back a lot. At the most of the time, she has to live on the meager base salary.
Beauty Salon is a world of women, where underlying war is undergoing secretly. Ping, a sixteen year old girl, is too simple to protect herself. Soon, she has become the easiest target for the other girls. They disgrace her in front of the customers by calling her slow or stupid. They chose her to be the sanitory minister, so she has to do all the cleaning after work. She accepted it as a great honor because in her whole life she has never got the chance to be a 'minister'before. But she has never been assigned to serve the new customers with coupons because it is the best chance to sell the services. Despites all the bullies and unfair treatments she has received, she never complains. She genuinely believes what the others doings are for her own good. Her biggest dream is to purchase a cellphone one day when she complete her sell target. But I know unless she learned how to school her expressions, fake smiles, tell lies and bluff, that day would never come. When that day did come, she would not be herself any more.
We can find her type anywhere. they work harder than the others but always received the least. How could that happen? Honest suddenly has become the least valuable merit for the human being. If you choose to be the pine to go straight, you couldn't find even a ledge of verticle precipice to cling to. To survive in this world, sometimes you have to be the lowland trees, to reach hither and thither for what you need. Sad, but we just have to play by the rules.
