As I might have mentioned before, I love watching American television series. Under the name of learning English, I can indulge myself in any of my favorite without the slightest guilty of wasting time.
It just occurred to me what striking similarities have existed between a dish and a TV programme. I even wonder if there is a certain recipe to let those producers to follow. Like the cooks cooking with seasonings, those producers added various elements of carefully measured dollops together, stir a bit, and bang! They present us a show!
If we could make our requests like we did at the restaurant, what would we like to order? Everyone has his own taste, as for me, interesting characters, great lines and pretty faces ----that’s all I need for a good show. Do I miss something? Aha, if it’s a book, a good story might be important, but we are talking about TV programme—appear once a week, any good story might be dragged pale at such a pace. As for pretty faces, no need to deny here that we, human being, are easily swayed by appearance. Although I might be more careful and opt for the safety in real world, I see no harm getting my eyes feasted for pure entertainment.
Every show has a flavor for me. It was afternoon, the sun throwing shadows when it managed to break through the curtain. I’d already finished my daily work. The atmosphere in the office was soothing and drowsy. I started to entertain myself by flavoring the several TV programmes I recently have enjoyed.
It’s not easy to say which is exactly which flavor, because it is never just one thing, but different flavors mixed together.
Suits, jury drama, so far my favorite---like my favorite Sichuan food, spicy and hot. It’s a typical male show: Harvey Specter, aggressive and intelligent, wears designer brands and drive fancy cars, has a career that lights up the sky; Mike Ross, smart and a drifter, happy with Wal-Mart bargains and a bike ride. The fate threw these two together, and what sparks they possibly could make? Modern Society might not be an idea era to churn up alpha males, but at least it offers something else other than parking places for men to fight for---not muscles wresting kind fight—but something more interesting ,intelligence- sparks like type.
Warehouse 13, mystery---more like Hunan food for me, tastes a bit funny but in a pleasant way. Ok, I have a thing for anything supernatural-related. It’s nature for me to like any series falling into this catalogue.
Haven, mystery---another supernatural drama, but the reason why I enjoy it is not the story itself, but more for the place where it is shot. In fact I couldn’t think of another place suits better to this name: Haven. If I have to flavor this series, I guess it is like Shanghai food, looks delicate, but not very much to my taste.
