What can we say about the year of 2011? Before finding an exact word to define this year, I’d better start with a joke that is widely spreading in my company:“Who needs nuclear weapon when we got Bart?’”
Bart is a former employee. In 2011 he travelled a lot of places around the world. First he went to Haiti and an unexpected earthquake occurred, claiming 2.25 millions lives and almost ripping the whole country off the map. Then he went to Japan, another unprecedented tsunami and earthquake followed, shaking the whole world with its great damages and subsequent nuclear crisis. After that, he went to Libyan. Ok, we all knew what this time had happened: the war broke out, Gaddafi’s office was thrown down, and Gaddafi himself was beaten to death. Now he is in Egypt. We started to worry that the demonstration here was not that simple, something big might be in brewing.
Almost where he went where the disaster had followed. Personally I thought the timeline was deliberately messed up. You know how a legend has formed. Bart is an expert engineer. It’s highly likely that he simple went to those areas to join in the disaster-recovery projects, that is, not disasters followed him, but on reverse.
The point is, 2011 is indeed a year loaded with tradegies and calamities. Despite the natural disasters and the war, in 2011, the world is also facing with the economic crisis which is now smothering almost all the countries with its tight claws. Any one of those above-mentioned misfortunes along is big enough to leave the indelible mark of the year of 2011, however, none of them alone is sufficient enough to stand for the year of 2011. We survived, and we always can hope.
So what’s my story in 2011? I am afraid nothing big and interesting. While Bart is busying in going places, I am content living in my shining little box. No new challenges, no new goals, no gutwrenching fear driving me forward. I just spend a lot of time reading, indulging myself in the escape that the books could provide. It is really not bad just to hang in somewhere, and let life carry you along in its wake.
I seldom make New Year Resolutions because I hate to eat my words. Like someone once said that New Year Resolution is made to break. However, today, sitting idly in front of my computer, I suddenly realized that 2012 is coming and decided to give it a try. So here it is:
1. At least two blog entries per week
3. Learn how to drive
4. Earn more and spend less
5. Prepare myself well for any new chance
7. Toughen xiaoyu a bit up.
8. Try not to be so cynical
9. Pick up old friendship and make more new friends
10. Be stronger and more flexible
