When life is in hell, should we have a right to die?

401 views. 2018-5-4 14:46 |Individual Classification:Review

I just watched a radio. It's a heartbreaking story about a handsome young man named Adam from Canada. He was physically perfectly healthy, but he had a rare mental disorder which modern medicine couldn't explain, let alone cure.

His brain was creating pains for no reason. When the pains grew aggressive, he felt like being burned alive, being burned inside by acid. He tried all kinds of treatments, but they just failed him one after another. He loved life, and he wanted to stick along but the pains made every minute like being tortured in hell. At last he wanted to die with dignity, with friends and families beside him. He wanted a medically-assisted suicide.

Unfortunately, Canada's dying law is only for the people who are incurable. It excludes people whose sole illness is mental. During Adam's last years, he was working with his family to change it but failed. However, he was still forced to suicide in an undignified way, all alone. One day he got up in the midnight, driving out to meet his fate.

Adam couldn't change C-4 (Canada's dying law), nobody can. The evils, or sins exist among us, and even within us. Such a law, for some, would like be a window to the perfect murder.

Believe it or not, I understhand how Adam felt. For the past months, the pains have already become inseparable part of my life, I see it, I hear it, I feel it. Adam's story is reverberating in my heart, touching the softest chore of my heartstring, making a sound of crying of pains. But I can't give him my support in terms of this.

There is a monster lurking inside everyone's heart. A law like this would become a dangerous escape for people who couldn't keep their monster in control. It might be act like that magic paint in the book The Picture of Dorian Gray. Once Dorian Gray discovered that he could shift all the blame of his sins to the picture, he, without the least hesitation, has gone from corruptions  to corruptions and eventually culminated in cold-hearted murders.

And how many Dorian Gray is out there?
