Shopping is women's painskiller. That's absolutely true. The only question is what's the magic shopping held for women, and what kind of relief women could get from shopping? Is it a healing process or just a pure presure to own something?
A woman, no matter how strong she is, needs to feel cherished and wanted. unfortunately, in a society where criticisms are more generously given to the female than appreciation, such emotional needs are seldom satisfied. A woman's growth is almost an endless fight to survive through blows to her confidences. A pretty woman is often regarded as empty-minded, a clever criticised to be showy, a sexy said to be flirtatious; a serious looking pointed as not feminine enough. A woman who succeed in carreer is certainly not good enough to be a wife and mother. A stay home mother and wife is sneered as outdated and behind the society. But a well-trained shop assistant is never chary of giving away compliments.
" How fabulous you look on that!"
" You have such a nice figure. No one could look better on it than you!"
With cordial smile shining in admiration, they look directly at you as if you were something. A good assistant is always the best convincing liar. Aware of that in deep heart, women are still willing to give away their money.
Despite of all the talks of equality, women are still recognized as the inferior to men. In relationship, women should be happy about being owned by men. On the contrary, men are very touchy of being owned. They are so terrified of being controled, becaused it is a sigh of not manly. In career, equal opportunity to break the glass ceil for both men and women is still a fairy story. A business owned by women is always regarded to be a disaster. The reason is simple: women are supposed to be emotion-oriented, definitely not fit for this dog-eat-dog world. But the pleasure of owning is no gender. Women are just forced to oppress such desires down. Only in buy-and-sell world, sex discrimination doesn't exisit. The suppressed desire for owning could be totally set free.
Perhaps shopping is nothing but a pains-transfer. When you found you're on the verge of broke, the precious concerned and worries would matter the least.
