Though the World Cup has already drawn its curtain, the magic octopus Paul that successfully predicted the result of the competitions is still a seasonal buzz. Some soccer fans worship it while others hate it. Paul has become the focus of commercial speculation and stimulated all kinds of conjectures and skepticisms.

  One influential opinion regarding it is that the so-called prediction is a sheer coincidence. Octopus Paul made its decisions according to the color of national flags. He favored the box looked more similar with delicious shrimps and crabs. Another opinion is that it is a completely conspiracy and there has a strong human brain trust hiding behind Paul. Unfortunately, neither of them is convincing enough to plug the mouths of people. The theory of color can hardly explain why in the year 2008 Paul made a choice obviously violating its criterion for picking food and some people argue that octopus is the color-blind. If it is human being who has made such precise predictions, we just wonder if they are human beings or gods.

 In fact, some animals really have magic powers to make predictions; they are very sensitive to the impending change of environment, such as earthquake, tsunami and hurricane. That’s possibly because those animals can receive the information which is too weak for human being to perceive. But anyway making prediction involving the events of human being is theoretically impossible. Octopus Paul will be  a forever legend…
