A True Story

580 views. 2010-9-5 21:24 |

The following is a true story happened to me which is more scared than hurt, a live lesson about the hazard of carelessness and deception.

On Friday evening a week ago, after work I took metro back home, with a bag of important document in my hands. Before I arrived at home, I had a short stay in the vegetable market. With handful bags of vegetables, meat and watermelon, I totally forgot the existence of my bag with document. The weekend has been happy until Sunday night, when preparing Monday’s articles, I suddenly recalled the important document bag. I hunted about for the missing bag but had no gain. Then I comforted myself with a hypothesis that my bag was possibly left at office. The more I thought the more I believed in my hypothesis. That night was not a tough one for me.

But the fact is that I didn’t found the document bag as I had wished in Monday morning. Then I was seized by a snippet worry, trying to recall every detail from my leaving office to my arriving at home on that Friday evening. I was of great possibility I left my bag on Metro station, Metro cabin or vegetable market. I asked my son, who was still in his summer holiday, to ask the vendors in market whether they had seen and picked up my bag. My son’s phone call brought to me disappointing information and I had to cast my hope to the last possible placeMetro, station or cabin. I have to admit that I was very nervous at that time because the chance of finding a lost thing in Metro is minor, especially it is something valuable. But who will pick up the document bag which is worthless to anybody except me? I decide to try my luck. Firstly, I called Metro service hotline and received a bad feedback; secondly I posted a notice of Lost and Found in the Forum of Shanghai Metro Club, sketching the event and leaving my mobile phone number. My worry was increasing, how many people would see this notice about this losing event happened three days ago? I felt frustrated after posting the notice. But unexpectedly, a short cell-phone message came, asking how to give the bag to me. Enraptured with a stoke of good fortune, I immediately contacted the man who claimed to had picked up my bag and we appointed to meet after my work. Of course he asked for some benefit and I felt more willing to buying it back. But when I contacted him again a about five o’clock, he changed his idea, told me that it was impossible for him to meet me and he would asked a taxi to give my bag back if I agreed to put money into his bank account. I had never seen the thing more ridiculouspaying money in advance when purchasing goods from unknown person, without any guarantee (a hundred times worse than making transaction from internet). Full of alert, I asked to check the detail of my lost bag with that Stanger. Refused to answer anything, he hung up the phone. What a shameful cheater he is!

I still remember the feeling of desperation I had when I was on my way home last Monday. I kept thinking the ways to make amends, but none of them was practical…I went to bank I visited last Friday and the last glimmer of hope shattered. I thought and thought and I just couldn’t believe who would like to pick up such a seemingly useless bag. It was easy to find that there was nothing except document, no envelope, and no small bag with zipper. Before coming back, I decided to go to the vegetable market again, I didn’t know why I would go there again, possibly because I couldn’t persuade myself that I was foolish enough to put down document bag in Metro station or Metro cabin without any reason(not crowded, brought nothing). Unexpectation came again. I got my bag from a vendor who sold bean curd. He told me he was not there when my son came to ask…

Facing the regaining bag, I was swoon with joy. I was so luck to have it back otherwise I didn’t know how to pick up the pieces. After this terrible experience, I draw the following conclusions,

1, Don’t stroll around when we have important thing in hand. We should go directly to the definition, such as company or home.

2, If we unfortunately lose important article, don’t be too easy to believe stranger who claim to pick it up and want to give it back at a price without carefully checking the details .

3The one who asks to receive money through bank remittance and then gives thing back is definitely a cheater.

I do hope that I will be more careful in the future. After all, good luck will not accompany me all the time.

Glad to hear that you eventually found your lost bag. God bless!
And thank you for your tips. When I am impatient, also I will do something ridiculous and stupid.

I think that being careful is the most important thing, and if we unfortunately do something bad, calming down is of great significance.
