What attitude should we have towards foreign products?

472 views. 2009-6-29 18:42 |

Last weekend I went shopping with my friend. You know, just typical girl’s shopping, gossiping, small talking, commenting on other’s dressing, and eating, drinking. We entered Watsons for a bottle of sun cream. We checked Neutrogena, took one bottle and read its instruction. All English! It’s not unusual to find English-only instruction on skin care products nowadays.

“English-only again!” my friend said with a comic-like face.

I don’t care about what language they use in products instruction. I buy products, not language. Its effects interest me more.

“Is there anything special on this product? Is it suitable for my skin?” very naturally I asked assistant as what all customers would do.

“Don’t you see that it’s a foreign product?” she replied impatiently with a face saying that I’m soooo ignorant. “It is imported from foreign country. Many foreigners come here only to buy our products,” she added. So what? I’m a girl of Chinese nation with black hair and yellow skin. What the other yellow-hair and white-skin buy has nothing to do with me. Why should I care? Is it what they buy the standard of good products? Is it what they produce the number one quality? I don’t care at all!!!!!!

Admittedly, some of the foreign products are truly good. But most of the time, it depends. It depends on the sort of products, on the exporting country, on the import price, and on many many other facts. Not all foreign products are of high quality.

Personally, it’s disgusting to see a Chinese shop assistant blindly praising a foreign product to her also Chinese fellow. How much does she understand the English instruction? She just blindly, so blindly believes that all foreign things are good things. And frustratingly this is the same thoughts of many other Chinese people. Oh, yes, yes. Foreign goods are all perfect. Foreign teachers are all highly paid. Foreign moon is always rounder than that of us.

Thinking of what Korean citizens do for their own products, like cars, cell phones, and so on. Then, thinking of what we do! Don’t we know that many clothes of Nike are “Made in China”?

At last, I bought sun cream of Garnier, a French band, because all Chinese skin care product companies have already bought by foreign companies.

Friends, what skin care products do you use?
