a small step and some experience

At this moment ,i am so excited because i have finished the dictation of the small movie "walk with the beast" after so many days.It is harder than i thought and i encountered many problems during this course. What a pity is that there are also many words i cann't hear clearly and i will try again . Fortunately, many dio-english friends have given me great help and i wanna appreciate all of you very much. In a word, this is a small step and i make it.
Now , i will share my friends some experience i get from this dictation practice.
First of all, capture the main idea of the whole. It is difficult for me to hear each word clearly and finish the dictation during the first pass. There is a problem i encounter at first that i do concentrate the whole energy on each word from the begainning to the last, but i cann't follow the announcer and donot know what he is talking. Then , i try to capture the main idea every time, and i find it easier and also know where deserve my more attention the next pass.
Then, try to get the key words of each sentence. This is the new pass.The key words are these from which you can understand what's the story. Finish the sentence with these words and your own enderstanding. It is similar to the retelling of the sentence.
What's more, listen again and correct the sentence with the exact words from the movie. For most of the sentences, i have to listen and listen again. It is boring, but useful.
Last, but not least. listen again and again to check the dictation you have made till every word can match the announcer.

- Thank you for your suggestion! It is hard to dictate a movie or a novel for me. I am not a professional student. What I want is just listening and understanding what they say and how to express myself. But I thought dictation was a really good measure. Thanks
