It was a memorable experience in my life. When i was a university student in Nanjing, i usually spent my weekends visiting other universities in Nanjing to broaden my horizentals. Because my university located on the north of Yangtze River, and most other universities located on the south of the river, i offen went through the Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge by bus but had little experience walking in the bridge owing to its long way.
Once upon a time when i was a freshman, on a common day in March of 2005, i went to Nanjing Areo-Space University for a visit with a roll-film camera as usual. After a happy day, i got on the bus to my campus. It was about eight o'clock and there was so much time for me. So i got off the bus on the south of Yangtze River Bridge to walk through the bridge and enjoy the beauty of the scene in the cool night.
I hadn't had any pictures of myself on the bridge before, so I made up for a deficiency. It was very dark, and i didn't think i could take good pictures of the scene. What i wanted to do was just taking a photo of myself for a memory. Unfortunately, the roll-film camera was not like the digital one. You didn't know whether your photos were good or not before they were developed. So i wantd to ask for some help. However, there was fewer people staying on the bridge. What i could see was the heavy traffic.
Not far in front of me was a beautiful lady leaning on the parapet and gazing the water in the distance down the bridge. I was a shy boy and had no courage to speak to strangers ,let alone a lady. But , there was no other male to turn to. So i screwed up my courage and went up to her.
" Excuse me, could you do me a favor to take a picture of me?" I asked politely and in fear and trembling as a cat on a hot roof. She said nothing just like she didnot hear. I felf embarrassed and went another side of her shoulder and asked again.
"Hello, would you mind taking a photo of me?" but received no reply again just like i was invisiable . I felt terrible and walked way.
I knew that a great number of citizens of Nanjing was nor warmhearted, especially when strangers asked for help.I continue walking in bad mood. Suddenly, i felt it unusual more and more . If she thought me as a bad guy and didnot want to do me a favor, she just said no to me.That's OK. But what she did just now was imcomprehensible to me.
Why? Why did she do that to me? What the heck was she doing? Did she had some mental problems?
